The Influence of Books to Movies

If you asked any teenager these days, what they would rather do, read a book or watch a movie, the answer most of the time will be to go to the movie. As movie get more and more high tech people are forgetting about the stories and books that the movies came from. I believe that more people should be actually reading the book instead of just saying “I’ll just watch the movie” To me a book can not only give you life lessons, help you walk in others shoes , but they can keep you entertained for always. When I read a book, my mind is always going, thinking what could happen next, leaving me anticipating what will happen next. I love how a good book can not only expand your mind to think of things you never would have anyways but how it can open your mind to help you understand situations of which you would have had no chance to experience otherwise. Many people these days say that they just do not have time to read. One of my favorite reading quotes is by Confucius, it states that one must either find the time to read or surrender themselves to ignorance. And even if don’t want to take the time to go and buy a book you can always choose alternatives such as an e-reader or even an audiobook. To me you simply can not get to know the characters in a 3 hour movie the way that you can get to know and understand them in a 500 page novel. I don’t hate movies. I believe good movies have a place, I for one am guilty of staying up late on a week night to watch classics like ’16 Candles’ or ‘The Breakfast Club’ but to me a movie pales in comparison to a book. In books you can build your own ideas from just the raw material of a book, cast your own characters, and imagine yourself in your hero or heroine’s point of view.
