February 26, 2012 marked a highly controversial day in history; a day in which an unarmed African-American, 17 year old, Trayvon Martin, was fatally shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman of a gated neighborhood in Sanford, Florida. The essence of the case was that Martin way walking home from a 7/11 store, after purchasing a skittles and drink, it was during that time that Zimmerman saw him and called 911 reporting a mysterious young black male in a hoody who looks like he was up to no good. Zimmerman was instructed by the 911 operator that they do not need him following the suspicious male (Martin), however, Zimmerman continued his pursuit, and later reported that he only got out of his car to give the authorities a physical/location address. He claims to have been jumped and pummeled, by Martin, who repeatedly knocked his head into the ground. Martin was alleged to have reached for Zimmerman’s firearm and at that point was shot once in the chest.
According to the article by Marilyn Bardsley, when Dean’s mother and step-father talked to the police, it was a different story. They said that the teenagers were lying and that their son had never been a violent person, who loved kids and had always been generous to young people. She claimed the teenagers had taken advantage of her son’s hospitality and then crazed b drugs, had murdered him in his own home. Instead the police had no other choice but to believe the teenagers once they found Dean Corll’s torture
What we found were your typical high school kids: energetic, curious, seemingly carefree. Juror Robin Trujillo, who moved to the Richmond area about a year and a half ago and wasn't familiar with the McDonnells before the trial, said it "wasn't just one light bulb" that swayed the jury toward a guilty verdict. But after deciding on guilt on the first conspiracy charge "everything kind of fit together like a puzzle," she said.. The owner, Ray said, did not have any jewelry out. The man then ran away.Deputies responded to the store at on the report of an armed robbery.
The film Gone Baby Gone raises many deep moral questions surrounding our morality and our ability to make decisions based on ethics. The film, directed by Ben Affleck, centers around the investigation led by the police and two private investigators looking for an abducted girl. The girl’s family is distressed, although their ability to take care of the girl is questionable. It is made obvious that her mother has addictions to various drugs, and that her and her boyfriend owe money to a drug lord. We learn the backstory of a head of police; his daughter was also abducted and killed many years ago.
Samantha Martin The news article I chose to compare and contrast is the release of George Zimmerman. If you have been keeping up with the news you know that Zimmerman is the neighborhood watch captain who shot and killed seventeen year-old Trayvon Martin on February 26th as he walked home from the store after purchasing a soda and a bag of Skittles. Today April 23, 2012 Zimmerman was released on 15,000 dollars bond witch was ten percent of the 150,000 dollar bond set by the judge earlier this week. Msnbc.com has video coverage of Zimmerman walking out of jail escorted by police clutching a brown paper bag. The links on this site are very useful if you want to follow the story from the beginning.

Reasons why Potter was a suspect ● He had given evidence saying that he had seen Walton from a distance in shirt sleeves and yet when the body was discovered Walton still wore his jacket. When it was removed, he had on a short-sleeved shirt so Walton could not have seen him when he said he did. ● Potter had touched the murder weapons but did not admit to this until February 20th when the police said that they would have to dust them for fingerprints. He made up a story that the neighbor who had found the body with him said that Potter should check to make sure that Walton was definitely dead. He obviously was.
Part Two Jeffery Macdonald is still denying him being the murderer of his wife and kids. The police work hard to find out details of that night in part two. We learn, as readers, about his trial, his conflicts, details on the lady with the hat, and more. Jeffery Macdonald was charged with the murders in the beginning of the part. Of course he sees that it is not fair because they didn’t take into consideration that his tests all came back well.

To go on, these same eye witnesses were never questioned by authorities until 48 hours after the incident occurred. This is a perfect example of how the Oxford police were indifferent to the crime and had no interest in pursuing justice. It is one thing to realize that so many townspeople would care so little, but it is the police’s job to care and effectively ‘protect and serve’. The racial killing of Marrow was not only grossly unnecessary but also morally lacking. It is hard to believe that even in the 1970’s so many people in my own town could so readily display such a disgusting side of human nature.
