Eaarth Chapters 1 & 2 We’ve changed the planet. Global warming is no longer philosophical or future threat but instead a current and very real threat. The changes made to our planet are more evident in the toughest parts of the planet, and climate change is wrecking the lives of thousands daily. We need to consider the world we’ve created and how to live in it. We need to figure out what part of our lives we must forego and what ideologies we must abandon so that we can protect our societies and our civilizations.
Carbon dioxide is a heat trapping greenhouse gas. It gets “released through human activities such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels, as well as natural processes such as respiration and volcanic eruptions” (Global Climate Change: Key Indicators, 2014). An increase in carbon dioxide means more heat is trapped thereby raising the Earth’s temperature. Global surface temperature needs to also be monitored. Not just one area but globally!
Should one be concerned about rising global temperatures? How might increasing global temperatures affect us? These are all questions and concerns on the minds of many as they decide where to stand on the issue and credibility of global warming. On one side of global warming are those who believe that it is a scientifically credible concern while on the other side are arguments against global warming and an overall consensus that it is not a threat. If more people fight to force the government to make wiser energy decisions we can turn around global warming. Many communities are surrounded by nuclear energy plants or other harmful energy plants. This is a dilemma that local communities face when trying to fight global warming. Each individual can only do so much to fight these huge corporations and energy plants. The best thing we can do as a society is establish better laws for what is considered acceptable when creating energy.
Many worry about the negative consequences Global Warming may have on our Earth. It is believed that there will be detremental effects from sea to land. A rise in water levels causing the icecaps to melt. Melting icecaps would then release methane another greenhouse gas. The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain.

Scientists believe that this rise in temperature is mainly due to human factors and the increase of industrialisation and the revolution. These industrial activities have raised atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide which contribute to greenhouse gases.
The raise of the temperature has been affecting humans and animals. Glaciers started to melt really fast which is affecting the animals that live in the north/south pole. Hydrofracking will make us alot of money and would let us to make our own natural gas and wouldnt have to get it from somewhere else but we are harming our environment we havent going to last here if we keep messing with
This devastation affects a majority of the U.S. being one of our largest sources of fresh water, and will only continue to deplete, as companies carelessly dump their waste into the lake. Consumption of fish from this lake will soon be obsolete if immediate action is not taken. These are all things that need to be considered by industrial businesses, families, merchants, fishermen, and environmentalists. As long as the waters are polluted the economy will experience great loss, and may even see jobs created by the Great Lake, eventually
Government, as one of the most powerful administrations in the world, does have a significant amount of power that could be utilized in order to conserve these resources and benefit the economy, the country, and to an extent- the world. Robert Samuelson writes simply that if the government introduced anti-global warming laws, “fossil fuel prices [would] rise” and “consumers [would] quickly use less, and new supplies of ‘clean energy’ [would] magically materialize” (Source D). The amount of money it would take to “solve climate change, invest in a clean future, and save billions in imported oil”, would end up being around a dime per capita, per day. This low cost should be extremely appealing to the government, for “few things are more appealing in politics than something for nothing” (Source D). The government has already done a good job encouraging people to be more “green”, but the power they possess could improve the situation exponentially.
