Information that is vital to the reader is missing. Furthermore information, such as the Case Study, are included which is not necessary to the findings of the study. Critique of Entire Article: Numbers 1, 6, 8, 9, and 5 Lin et al. (2004) chose a problem that does need more research. Relapsing addicts need a more effective therapy to help overcome addiction problem once and for all.
CHAPTER 9 – LOSE AND LEARN “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. Because it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” ― Maya Angelou, American memoirist, poet, and civil rights activist Oftentimes, people go through life’s troubles. Yet, rather than searching for ways to ameliorate their pressing situations, they escape reality and just live by the hopes that the troubles might disappear eventually over time. Upon returning, the problem apparently stays. Feeling hopeless and desperate, they continue with their ways of nurturing negative and passive mentalities; and thereby, practically accepting their fate and quitting from moving
One treatment option is detoxification. Detoxification is the process of safely getting alcohol out of your system. Another form of treatment is counseling. I believe that counseling needs to be included in any form of treatment because the learned behaviors need to be replaced with more positive coping skills and alternative ways of being. Treatment is difficult because the behavioral perspective is based on past experiences and learned behaviors.
An alcoholic drinks because they need inner healing. Once they get to the root of their emotional wounds, they will be able to stop drinking for good! That's all there is to it. Do you expect too much from the alcoholic in your life? Expectations will keep you on an emotional roller coaster ride with the alcoholic.
The main thing I have learned is to be confident. In being confident I have learned to speak clearly and most important stay calm. I know I must stand up for my rights and for what I believe is right. There are many different peer pressure situations I will find myself in and I will use these techniques I have learned to make my way through them. Some of the ways I can stay in charge in these situations are just to avoid the situation all together, have a group of friends that have the same beliefs about drug use as I do, make fun of the situation and give them reasons why I would never choose to do drugs and most important I think is to always say “NO”.
A critical thinker considers unlimited possibilities and pursues knowledge without a personal agenda. The vulnerable in society ultimately need a voice for their plight and the professionals who help them carry that responsibility. Applying critical thinking skills to the obstacles in chronic mental illnesses will provide a confidence in the profession and hope for those with a disorder. References Foerschner, Allison M. (2010). The History of Mental Illness: From 'Skull Drills' to 'Happy Pills'.
These changes will not drop down anytime soon, one must reach out and exert integrity. Experience different challenges, it will help improve one's social being and reenact those challenges. Conspiracies are just another illusionary fear that prevents a person trying something new. The only way a person can be free is happiness. This is the way to take down the system and relief from conspiracy theories which are all illusionary fear.
The routine practice of physician-assisted suicide raises serious ethical and other concerns (Snyder, 2004). According to ACP-ASIM, legalization of physician assisted suicide would undermine the patient–physician relationship and the trust necessary to sustain it. It would alter the medical profession's role in society and endanger the value our society places on life; especially on the lives of disabled, incompetent, and vulnerable individuals. The Hippocratic Oath is one of the oldest binding documents in history. Its principles are held sacred by doctors, “Treat the sick to the best of one's ability, preserve patient privacy, and teach the secrets of medicine to the next generation” (Hippocratic Oath, n.d.).
Regretting past experiences will not help them adjust. “Thinking positively and avoiding negative thoughts is a good strategy when trying to handle stress in just about any circumstance.” Santrock (2006) Cognitive restructuring is the process of replacing the thoughts, ideas and beliefs that maintain an individual’s problems. It can be used to get people to think more positively and optimistically. I think the teen that had the disruptive past needs more self-control at this point in his life. He needs to have an internal locus of control, or believe that his behaviors are responsible for what happens to him in his life.
In completing certain exercises that are in different chapter s in Burley I am able to see my faults, strengths and weakness. There was an exercise on dissipating bad habits and the end result of not ending them is disorder. Those s help one examine oneself introspectively and to begin to work on self reformation.. The article on self disclosure stated that one must be careful not to disclose any information that the other person might feel is offensive, he or she must be careful to start off slowly self disclosing and hopefully, the relationship will grow and one can add much more as time permits.
