Hispanics are at a greater risk of developing diabetes Type 2. Latinos and Hispanics are twice as likely to have complications like nerve damage, heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure and blindness due to diabetes. In Latinos and Hispanics the rate for developing diabetes at an early age is higher, around the age of 20. Physicians are twice more likely to diagnose Mexican Americans with diabetes than non-Hispanic and their chance of dying from the disease is 50% higher than Hispanic whites. Diabetes is the 6th leading cause of death in Hispanics/Latinos living in the United States and 4th leading cause for Hispanic/Latino
They also must have origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America ("American Indian & Alaska Native Populations," 2014). Being a part of such a minority and diverse group has challenges when it comes to health. AI/ANs ten leading causes of death from greatest to least are; cancer, heart disease, unintentional injuries, diabetes, chronic liver disease & cirrhosis, chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke, suicide, nephritis, and influenza & pneumonia ("American Indian & Alaska Native Populations," 2014). Compared to the national average AI/ANs are actually at a 50% higher death rate, especially compared with non-Hispanic white people. These causes of death include unintentional injury, suicide, diabetes, chronic liver disease, certain cancers, and alcohol-related mortality ("Causes of Death Among American Indians and Alaska Natives," 2014).
In some countries, no middle class exists. Only high class and low class, if someone is not rich they are dirt poor. In some third world countries people struggle just to survive. They have to live day to day not knowing if they will have a full meal, much less any scraps to eat. They have to go looking for food by either; looking through dumpsters, beg for the food or scrape up some change, enough to buy a very small portion.
Smoking and its effect on the circulatory system While there are many different types of drugs worldwide, nicotine is by far the most widely used drug of abuse and one of the most addictive. (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2008; Psychology Today, 2010). US researchers have estimated that one in five deaths each year, more than 400,000 deaths are as a result of smoking. Illegal drug use and alcohol abuse are on the increase and so is the spread of sexually transmitted diseases like HIV The current economic situation has seen a rise in suicides and murders being committed. While these have presented large mortality rates, tobacco causes more deaths than all the above combined.
Another 49 percent exceeded recommended intakes of dietary cholesterol; subsequently, these individuals were more likely to show early signs of atherosclerosis. Aim for a Healthy Weight According to the American Heart Association, experts convened by the World Health Organization (WHO) have said that obesity is rapidly increasing and is a threat to the health of populations worldwide. These W.H.O experts also noted that obesity affects adults and children alike. It's been found out that children between the ages of 5 and 17 who were overweight were 2.4 times more likely to have elevated total blood cholesterol levels than children of normal weight. The study also indicated that of those children who were overweight, more than half had at least one risk factor for heart disease.
In 2005 the United States had higher infant mortality and maternal mortality rates than many other industrialized nations; ranked 30th in infant mortality and 20th in maternal mortality. Prenatal health care is considered one of the best preventive health care practices that could potentially reduce the risk of maternal mortality and infant death. During prenatal health care the mother can undergo risk assessment tests, treatment for current medical conditions, and valuable education. The health disparities amongst maternal mortality have been contributed to poverty, sociocultural factors and limited education. Women who live in areas of high poverty usually cannot afford adequate health care and when they become pregnant they are less likely to see a doctor
(Burt VL, Whelton P, Roccella EJ, et al, 1995) In this study I found that women have higher odds of reporting hypertension than do men, regardless of their race/ethnicity. Women are more likely to access the medical system and live longer than men. Thus, it is possible that women are more likely to be aware of their hypertension status because of their contacts with physicians. Evidence suggests that the prevalence of hypertension decreases as education increases among non-Hispanic Blacks and Whites, but not among Mexican Americans. (Borrell LN, 2006) Compared with non-Hispanic Whites, non-Hispanic Blacks regardless of their education were more likely to report hypertension, with those with a college degree or more having the greater odds.
An ischemic stroke is usually characterized by a reduction or obstruction of blood supply to the brain due to blocked blood vessels caused by atherosclerosis or a blood clot. Up to twelve percent of ischemic strokes often cause death within thirty days and is among the largest health burdens in developed countries. It is worth noting that the epidemiology of stroke has been changing because of several factors, with the most important being an ageing population, as well as advancements in the treatment of the condition. Stroke prevalence is projected to increase globally as the population of individuals aged above sixty-five years augments (Ovbiagele et al., 2013, p. 2363). Ovbiagele et al.
Difficult choices must be made when limited resources cover only some of these necessities. Often it is housing, which absorbs a high proportion of income that must be dropped. If you are poor, you are essentially an illness, an accident, or a paycheck away from living on the streets. First, A lack of affordable housing and the limited scale of housing assistance programs have contributed to the current housing crisis and to the homelessness. Housing assistance can make the difference between stable housing, precarious housing, or no housing at all.
The Issue of Poverty and Hunger By: Nolan Kibit Lit III 2nd Hour One in seven people die of hunger, and 2.2 million children die each year because they are not immunized .Many people do not know how large of an effect poverty has on the health crisis that we face. Poverty is an important global issue because it plays a role in the estimated one billion people who lack access to health care systems. Health issues are a main concern for countries with high poverty populations. Poverty effects the way we act and live, and our health effects the way that we behave in the real world. Poverty effects our health in many ways including mental health and diseases, access to vaccinations, malnutrition, and attaining adequate healthcare.
