In Chapter 6 of To Kill A Mockingbird, a series of action occurs towards the protagonists, Scout, Jem and Dill, revealing their developing stages of maturity. Maturity is an ability to see right from wrong, to settle problems professionally, to be patient, to be sensible and responsible. In the story, the 3 children walks into the Radley’s back yard, which soon shows their poor selection of entering without permission, even with their father’s restricting warnings. The shadow and the shotgun blast was a result in the consequences they irresponsibly did not consider. Next, Jem loses his pants in the escape, showing his lack of responsibility towards his properties.

The author goes on to explain the diapers of the boy’s siblings that were in “various stages of anarchy” (8). The choice of words lets the readers know just how bad of a condition the diapers were, showing the readers just how that the “Kool-Aid wino” and his family were living. The figurative language used in this piece plays into the imagery of the story as a whole., When Brautigan uses a simile “ the car wobbled back and forth on the road as if the driver were having an epileptic seizure” (14) to show just how abused to car really was in town. But yet the grocer continued
“Words give us symbolic vehicles to communicate our creations and discoveries to others”. When Sonny told his father that he adopted a kid, the specific words he used had a strong influence on the dad’s reaction. Beebe, Beebe, and Ivy also noted that “when you label something good or bad you use language to create your own vision of how you experience the world”. In this particular scene, Sonny was stuttering a lot and his words symbolized his confusion of the current situation. Beebe, Beebe, & Ivy (2012) noted that “words and actions are tools we use to let someone know whether we support them or not”(p.76) Jack Gibbs has researched supportive and defensive communication for a couple years now and he defines defensive communication as “a language that creates a climate of hostility and mistrust”(p. 76-77) In the scene the father uses crude language and even goes to the extent of saying that “the kid would be better off living in a dumpster than with Sonny” (Adam Sandler).

Parents’ influences on children can either be good or bad, which depends on how they treat and teach their children. As a father to Jem and Scout, Atticus needed to show a good example for his children to follow. Scout was well-known for her fist fight even though she was a girl. Atticus told Scout to stop fighting and act like a mature, grown-up woman or else he would wring her out. Scout tried to resist her father but since Atticus was a well-respected man to both his peers and families, Scout followed his orders.
One of the main characters in the book Lafayette who didn’t want to be like other kids in the projects when his friend Rickey started influencing him to do some bad things, and he started being like him even though he knew that was bad but he choose to confirm and take that route because it was a normal behavior for the projects children. However Lafayette brother pharaohs choose not to be like the projects kids and he went after his choice he wanted to be different and achieve something, just like his cousin Dawn did by finishing high school and going into collage. That could also be seen in the movie mean girl when the girl Katie came back to the united states she made a choice to confirm to the teenage life in America is like because she thought that otherwise they would have never accepted her, so she tried to fit in and she was considered to be a mean girl just because she wanted to follow the crowd. As stated in the article “Sadness of Conformity” that conformity makes it difficult to hang into things that’s important to you and the sad thing is that you don’t even realize you lost it and when you do it’s too late. “You lose something priceless and precious when you are forced to be like everyone

Parents influence their children with their actions and lifestyle as much as celebrities do. Being a parent, I see first-hand on how I influence my child’s growth. When I get mad, I storm off with an attitude and I see my son doing the same thing when he is put in a similar situation. We as parents want our children to be okay with being taken advantage of in the world. We tell them to not get mad and that it will be okay when we know we have been through that situation before and it was not okay, where on the other hand you have a rapper singing about not letting anyone hurt him because he has a gun.
