Additionally, legalizing prostitution would allow for it to be recognized as a profession and allow for sex workers to be recognized as having a legitimate job. If prostitution was legal, as with any other profession, sex workers would be taxed and the proceeds would benefit the government, which in turn could allow the government to use that money to fund essential services. Another advantage of legalizing prostitution is that it would allow for sex workers to have a safe working environment, allow for the maintenance of dignity - dignity that is often taken away when they are subject to various types of abuse. Most importantly, the argument for
He or she was consistent throughout the article by describing what happens while captured under the watchful eye of a trafficker. Nevertheless the author could have provided more facts to strengthen the argument. Sex trafficking is increasing which means that the government is not doing enough about the issue. The government designed The Palermo Protocol, an international crime control cooperation treaty which also contains measures to protect trafficked people and prevent trafficking. If the author would have gave facts like mentioning the Palermo Protocol and examples of negative and positive results the article would have been much more effective in not only expanding on the claim but also being less bias and identical to other
Sex workers are looked at as just that, sex workers, and not women who have chosen a perhaps morally questionable means of employment. This negative viewpoint allows for the mistreatment and verbal abuse of these women by police on the streets of Halifax and the world. The legalization of prostitution could help to define protection rights for these women and in doing so generate a very lucrative occupation which would be much safer. The economic benefit of taxing this employment could have positive attributes on provincial and federal governments. Other countries such as Hungary and Australia have legalized prostitution with positive results.
Instead of just throwing criminals away and forgetting about them, a quick glance at any academic article or research studies on this subject makes it painfully clear what needs to be done. More focus must be put on rehabilitation for those willing to be helped rather than blind punishment doled out indiscriminately toward all, and though chemical castration is not a perfect catch-all solution for every sex offender, it's a start. With overall general reduction in recidivism rates in nearly all studies conducted, having it as an option for rehabilitation is a much needed positive step in not only understanding and fixing our recidivism problems regarding sex offenders, but alsop towards the pursuit of justice in our society as a
Lower crime rates is another possible positive outcome. There would be more opportunity available for employment if the bill is passed as there would be a demand within the facilities to manage the increased number of inmates. There would be a decreased cost for tax payers for rehabilitation programs. And finally, the most impactful positive outcome would be the justice brought to the victims of armed robbery. All of these possible outcome would benefit the public
I do believe we should not coddle them with taxpayer treatment programs that a lot of them enter and exit repeatedly. But, on the other hand, if those treatment centers do offer some sort of success, then it a good thing to offer them in hopes of the offenders not depending on drugs and having to commit crimes to get those drugs thus reducing crime, the courts, jails, and prison population. Drug treatment programs are less expensive than prisons and more effective at helping people turn their lives around. Many of the programs available to inmates are provided by organizations like AA and NA, which send volunteers into the prisons. Most of the volunteers are previous offenders who have changed their lives and now want to help other change their life.
Most of the people who are for legalizing prostitution believe that it would “eliminate the criminal element of the trade, leading to safer working conditions and better health for both the prostitutes and their clients (2009 Sexton).” Many believe it is a victimless crime and it should be between two consenting adults, and kept private but legal. Prostitutes believe that it is a problem that the government doesn’t want others to manage them or profit from this, because they need the management and support so they have the physical protection they need. Philosopher Sybil Schwartz states that “Prostitution might gain public esteem. A woman could be respected for her wealth of sexual and emotional knowledge (wntr 2003 prostitution and freedom).” A lot of the women believe that “they did a great service to many people; it was like they were there therapists (2004Hoge).” Other benefits that could come from prostitution are financial benefits, health benefits, and
Murdock suggested that the family must create a stable satisfaction of the sex drive, with the same partner to prevent a sexual free-for-all. This would benefit the individual as life could be easier for them. For example it would help the mother or father to raise one or two children instead of four or five. This would benefit society as less resources would be used. For example as the population increases the amount of resources used decreases, so less children would mean the less use of electricity or heating, helping society by using little resources.
Prostitution should be legalized With the legalization of Prostitution thee industry will get taxed, leaving billions in revenue for the United States Government. If legalized the government would regulate it and would enforce strict health laws, these laws would prevent the spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. Less human violations would occur because there would not be any “pimps”, instead a fair industry where all sex workers receive the fair share. Prostitution should be legalized to tax for the services provided, improve the health requirements, and better the lives of sex workers by eliminating “Pimps”. Currently, prostitution is a dangerous occupation because it’s dangerous in the sense of medical and health issues for both the prostitutes and their customers.
Secondly, with less traffic there would be fewer accidents, and hence society would save money because of reduced medical expenses. Finally, with no cars in town centres there would be no need for large, ugly car parks and parking spaces. This would allow more space for buildings, houses, parks and the movement of buses and people, which could enhance a city greatly. However, there are some reasons why cars should not be banned. *..
