It is located in Giza where it guards the front of Khafra's pyramid. The greatest monumental sculpture in the ancient world, the Sphinx is carved out of a single ridge of stone 240 feet (73 meters) long and 66 feet (20 meters) high. Eruption of Mount St. Helens 1980 On May 18, 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted and killed fifty-seven people. This was the most recent earthquake in the main forty-eight states since 1915. Apparently about 2800 years ago, Mount Hekla had its largest eruption, and traces of the blast have been found as far as Scandinavia. Mount Katla is located in the most southern portion of Iceland, which is a mountain recently known for causing flooding when it melted glaciers on top of it. Due to all of Iceland’s volcanic activity, there is also a great deal of glacial activity.

They lived in relative peace from around 1000 - 1100 AD when Mayap n overthrew the confederation and ruled for over 200 years. In 1441 the Maya who had previously ruled Uxmal destroyed the city of Mayap n and founded a new city at Mani. Wars were fought between rival Mayan groups over the territory until the region was conquered by the Spanish. Chichen Itza was first populated between 500 and 900 AD by Mayans and for some reason abandoned around 900, the city was then resettled 100 years later and subsequently invaded by Toltecs from the North. There are numerous reliefs of both Mayan gods including Chac and the Toltec gods including Quetzacoatl.
