Though their restaurant failed and they went bankrupt, their father had them sing at quinceañero parties and on street corners, which made them popular quick. Their success only grew more when Selena and her mom started a clothing line. However, their lives changed with her sudden death in 1995. This album featured a duet with Donny Hathaway, “The Closer I Get to You”, which reached number two on the pop charts. She followed that up with the album Roberta Flack featuring Donny Hathaway. Hathaway died before the album was released in 1980. Soon after he died she found a new partner in Peabo Bryson.

To divorce with her husband, his mother Loise, let Foxx be adopted by her parents, Mark and Esther Talley, when he was still seven months old. Wanted to be able to play piano, Foxx got his first piano lessons at the age three at his grandmother's insistence. As he grew up, Foxx went to high school during which he played quarterback for his high school team and was good enough that he got press in Dallas newspapers. Went on to college he kept continuing to study music and attended Julliard to study classical piano, where got a music scholarship.

She later changed her name to Fanny Brice and got her first professional job in the chorus of The Talk of the Town but ironicely she got fired during rehearsals by the big current star George M. Cohen.

He taught himself to play the guitar, and when he was 16; his mother took out a loan to buy him a guitar for Christmas. During Bruce Springsteen concerts, he would express feelings about his family and the problems he endure during childhood. Basically he used memories from childhood and current issues to write his music. One of the best songs he ever wrote was “Born to Run”.
