Sandro Boticelli. The Birth of Venus. C. 1480. Fig 16.6 Pg. 252 Form is an element of art that means the whole of a pieces visible elements and the way those elements are united. Form allows us as viewers to mentally capture the piece of work and understand it. Elements included in form are color, lines, mass, shape, space, time and motion, light, color, and texture. After studying the painting of The Birth of Venus, my eyes are drawn to the focal point or center of the painting where Venus stands naked on a sea shell. The shell shows great detail with its rough edges, the shadows used to define the creases, and the pearl like color with pink hues. All these details really make the shell stand out. Venus has a peaceful look about her face. Her long blonde wispy hair is also used for a cover for her private area which she holds in place with her left hand. You can see that her neck and upper torso are slightly out of proportion with the rest of her body. With her right hand she modestly tries to cover her right breast. The contours of her legs, hips and arms give her body a voluptuous look. To the right of Venus is a woman who appears to be hovering slightly just over the edge of the shoreline. There is a good contrast of color of the light pink from the woman’s gown; which is adorned with small flowers to the vivid orange blanket also adorned with small flowers. The woman seems to want to wrap the blanket around Venus. The woman is wearing a necklace of leaves. Part of her hair is braided the other part is free flowing. Behind the lady on the right is a wooded area; the trees are dark brown with dark green leaves. The shoreline is detailed with inlet and outlet points. To the left of the shore is the vast light blue sea where light is reflecting of the surface. On the right side there are two female figures with dark brown wings. One has brown hair while
