She is very slim and frail looking. Her arms are thin with the far one either in shadow or possibly covered by a brown shawl. Picasso has only depicted one breast clearly, which has an erect nipple making her look cold. The other breast is merely hinted at by the use of shading and highlighting on her dress. The effect of this painting is to create a sombre mood, showing a girl who looks quite poor.
The mass of the painting is dominated by the woman who adds length horizontally by the elongated pose of her body. This is a very organic feminine figure which is emphasized the lighting and shadow effects around her breast, hip, and bottom area. There is a sense of depth created by the dark background where there is faintly painted a small bench creating diminution of space. The use of small details including the head dress and feather toy symbolizes luxury and sensuality. In the title, Large Odalisque, the term odalisque, refers to the many female slaves owned by a Sultan.
Taylor Swift has her golden hair pin back off her face. The natural sunlight is beaming from behind her though her arm and shoulders. At the top of the advertisement, Covergirl is displayed in olive green letters. At the bottom of the ad they put the text in black and green explaining the mascara value. The texts tell us fashionable women what the mascara does to eyelashes.
Ancient Greek clothing was superior to modern day clothing because it was more modest, simple, cost effective, showed their identity and gave people pride. Clothing in ancient Greece, unlike clothing today, was very unpretentious. Back in ancient times, the women wore long dresses that covered most of their body except their arms. “Greek women wore peplos, a garment consisting of one or two bed sheet sized pieces of cloth, one in front one in back, held together with dagger like pins and rope” (ANCIENT GREECE CLOTHING AND JEWELRY). The women also didn’t show cleavage, “Greek and roman women strapped in their breasts with bands of cloth that flattened their chest and reduced their breast size” (ANCIENT GREECE CLOTHING AND JEWELRY).
Emphasis was on the upper eyeliner and big defined lashes as we see in the photo of Mae West and here with Ginger Rogers. The lips were still a darker shade of red. Overall a very soft beautiful makeup application. Research hubpages.com and Annie Couture 1930’s Feast to
She accentuated her plump lips with pink lipstick and her high cheek bones with soft pink blush. Her nose was as straight as an arrow and her dark blue eyes shimmered brighter than her small diamond earrings in the sunlight. Katy wore a curve-hugging and cream-coloured leotard bedazzled with different shades of pink and purple coloured gems. The leotard was completed with a small pink belt tied around Katy’s small waist. Katy also wore cream-coloured stockings showing her fit legs along with pink heels and small, bedazzled pink bracelets while the pink and purple spot lights illuminated Katy’s pale skin tone.
This somewhat shallow use of (the illusion of) space allows her to pop out of the background, as she is pulled towards a viewer and thus becomes the focal point. As the background rises towards the horizon, there is a row of clouds that separate the landscape from the sky, which creates the middle-ground in this composition. This horizontal line adds to the flatness of the background as it mimics or echoes other lines for example in the landscape elements and in the contour of the shape of the woman, etc. and directs our eyes back to the woman. These lines thus create an eccentric rhythm throughout the painting.
Dressed in little more than white beads, possibly pearls, they layer her neck and drape from her head to her shoulders like a long sheer veil. While part of the veiling is wrapped seductively around her arm, the rest extends beyond her curly black hair and down her back, completely surrounding her knees. A stylish little hat sits at a precarious angle on her head, helping her dark hair obscure over half her face and one eye. On her lap is a large pink and flowery object that matches her hat. With the assistance of more white beading, the placement of this item serves to cover her lower half and projects the pretense of modesty.
C. From the planets, the same association of ideas was applied to the constellations of the zodiac. The zodiac became the prototype of the human body, giving different parts corresponding signs. 1. The head, for example,
The Mona Lisa is a portrait of a woman who is wearing a dress and a heavy cloak made out of a velvety material. A vail drapes over her head matching her dark brown hair. She is sitting in front of a landscape that has many valleys of water and many tall mountains which creates a misty back ground. Leonardo da Vinci painted his subject with a smile. Instead of using layers of paint to create texture.
