Is this a fact or one man’s opinion? Salman Rushdie was a British Indian novelist who studied history at the University of Cambridge in England. Rushdie has written and published many short stories including those collected in the novel East West. He takes the conventional facts of history and weaves a tale of seduction and conquest in the short story and consummation between Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabella of Spain consummate their relationship. The story features two of histories well-known figures Christopher Columbus and Queen Isabella of Spain. Italian christoforo Colombo whose name was Latinized as Christopher Columbus born the son of a cheese maker and wool weaver had great dreams of discovering the new world. Rushdie shows the confusion between the two rewriting history in a more erotic and intense manner. Crossing the boundaries of a usual writer during his time, he removes the usual cliché of history. He tells his story about the two, the powerful and the powerless in a manner that many may view as displeasing. He looks beneath the surface thus portraying a new point of view. History is indeed retold by Rushdie. In a whole new way events of the colonizers belittling them in the eyes of the colonized. In the short story Christopher Columbus and queen Isabella of Spain consummate their relationship; Rushdie gives a new point of view to the original story about queen Isabella and Christopher Columbus. Rushdie also gives the reader ‘ a behind the scene look’ to Christopher Columbus and Isabella’s relationship.
