In our modern world, unwanted pregnancies are very common. RU-486, which is also known as mifepristone, is a form of abortion that was introduced and approved for use in the 1980’s by Roussel Uclaf and his company (Banwell 1). Rosefield states that when the pill was discovered, it was the first time a so-called safe method of pregnancy termination was available for women (1). Since this miraculous pill was discovered , there have been many debates whether or not the pill is actually safe. The pill can cause toxic shock syndrome which can lead to death. Based on a new report, four women in the United States have died from this condition which is said to trace back to the pill (Seppa 1). According to Seppa, the women we perfectly healthy at ages of 18, 21, 22, 34 when they died from using the pill. These women developed uterine infections which later led their body to go into shock that could no longer be controlled (Seppa 1).There are also some restrictions for taking RU 486, where women who are older than 35 and or are heavy smokers are advised not to take the pill because it can lead to complications, and can cause death (Banwell
