In modern times, however, people who contribute outstandingly to Canada get to grace the face of postage stamps. In order to honour Louis Riel, who founded the province of Manitoba, Canada Post made the decision to give him his own stamp, much to the dismay of some historians. However, despite Riel and MacDonald’s controversial legacies, they equally deserve their own postage stamps for outstanding contributions to Canada. Although he lived quite an full life, the most important work that Louis Riel did was stopping the land transfer in the Red River Valley. For years, the Métis peoples used this land for the annual buffalo hunt, which was the main economic driver of their economy.
Page |1 Daniel Castracion Soc 100 tues-thurs Hotel Rwanda Between April and June 1994 a war between the Hutus and Tutsis occurred in the East African country of Rwanda. An estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the span of 100 days. I will discuss the basic scenario of the movie, how social theories may have influence particular outcomes and how dehumanization of the Tutsi people may have led to the acceptance of the genocide. This horrific event was not merely an act of one denomination simply not liking the other. Colonial history, global economic integration and finally the assassination president Habyarimana was the perfect combination for the tragic genocide of the Tutsi people of Rwanda.
The end of the Cold War allowed humanitarian interventions to take place. The perception of breaching the other clients sovereignty became obsolete [4]. Many wars have been fought on the pretext of humanitarian intervention. Power and resources are a common theme in most intra-state conflict [5]. The Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra Leone and the Maoist of Nepal both controlled rural areas during civil war.
Being the only educated Metis, his ingenuity contributed to his race in many ways. Following the Red River Rebellion, although he moved to Saskatchewan, Riel was asked back by the Metis to help them defend their land. Therefore the second rebellion broke out, also known as the Northwest Rebellion. A man could be a hero if his actions and motivations benefits other people, and on the other hand, To be a traitor means that he jeopardizes the life and welfare of others. Hence, Louis Riel can be both hero or traitor.
Before Romero’s bitter feelings towards the government, it already had death squads and military targeting the reformers (“El Salvadoran”). What made it worse was when they refused to investigate the murder of Romero’s closest friend (“Oscar Romero”). The church was opposed to Romero and his ideas because it went against church teachings. Originally, the Vatican had sent Romero to El Salvador to restore conservative authority because they knew that liberation theology was on the rise, and they wanted to suppress it (Foley 78). The constant jump from political to religious issues created lack of unity, which is what aimed this campaign towards failure.
Opposition to the government was becoming an American tradition that would only escalate with the coming of the Vietnam War. Anxiety would continue to build and ultimately lead to the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. On April 4, 1968 Dr. King was killed by James Earl Ray at a speech advocating for a black workers strike in Memphis, Tennessee. Immediately following his

World War I began because of many obstacles that America would have to sustain in order for the war to diminish. On May 7, 1915, the German army sank a ship called the Lusitania. At this time, 1,198 people lost their lives and included 128 American people. This ship was carrying war shipments from the United States to England. The passengers on the ship knew there may be a possible attack on the ship but Woodrow Wilson condemned this attack as illegal and inhuman.
The reason why is because during the On-to-Ottawa trek workers were unhappy with their critical conditions and when the workers leaders made it to the PM in Ottawa they got accused of being terrorists and communists. The second reason is that the terrorist group known as the FLQ used terrorism to try to attempt separatism during the October Crisis .The government imposed the war measures act which affected the citizens of Quebec. It is believed that other measures could have been used to resolve this problem. Finally the Parti Quebecois’s decision to pass bill 101 was unjustified to the English speaking Canadians. It showed that Quebec wants to have no relations with the rest of
This took place when Boutros was the secretary-general of the UN and four years after he had sent the arms to the Hutus. During the genocide, Boutros, like good-to-great leaders do (Collins, 2001), pointed the mirror in acceptance of blame. He blamed himself for sending arms and failing to act faster to cease the genocide. He was taking responsibility for his actions. He, nonetheless, could not energize his followers, the various countries, to help cease-fire in Rwanda.
