Many women probably did not even know how to write because their were neglected from their studies or were probably always to busy doing what ever their husbands wanted them to do. Rich's life was different she knew something had to change and that is the main reason why she decided to write about it. I would consider her as a model to all the other women at the time, her essay should have been a way to encourage other women to get off their buts, stop washing dishes, stop having kids, get their life together and start studying! The sad part of this is that till this day not many women are being recognized for their hard studies, and it has been almost thirty four years since this has come out to the public. This failure to consider what women need from their college experience in order to succeed is, as Rich says, part of the old belief that women's primary goal is or should be marriage--and that "[t]oo much intelligence or intensity may make [them] unmarriageable" (215).
That was one of the larges pushes for equality that had ever been dared to be spoken but yet, it was. Women wanted more control over planning a family, that was the legal change they desired. I know, think about it, we didn’t even have the say wether we wanted a large family or not. Many women, such as myself, thought it was a lot to ask, because women’s right to vote was still being advocated throughout the cities. But, through hard pushes, a women named Margaret Sanger rose to the stand, saying a women should have control over her own body.
In the story, the Awakening, Edna also rebelled against society by freely expressing herself. In her era, most people thought women had to be married and have children but she didn’t want that. This is a perfect example of how women can be rebellious against society’s view on
Women in early societies lived to reproduced and continue the blood line, mostly striving for male babies. People in society in some ways believed that god wanted life to run as women as the follower or to be inferior. Women through the years pushed to work and for education and over time laws were granted to allow this for women. The people saw a need for more workers with more jobs now available. The turn of women’s rights has gradually changed so much that women and men are pretty much considered equal in most of the
When Barbara found out she was pregnant another time, she felt an abortion would be the best decision because she had little money to support her and her son already, and her mom said that she would not help her daughter with to have another baby. Barbara went through with the abortion, and even though she was set on the idea we could see that she was going through both physical and emotional pain both during and after the procedure. The story of Imaculee was also another insightful story. In this novel we learn that Imaculee was a young girl when the genocide in Rwanda broke out. The Hutu people were killing the Tutsis just because they were Tutsi.
In the Gupta society, the women also were forced to be much more trapped than in any other societies. Families who preserved their families honor by protecting the girls virginity, ultimately would ensure a good husband, from a better family then their own. Girls were also kept confined and unsocial which Clay explains when she writes, " ... it was perceived that young brides could be more easily socialized to remain docile and loyal to their husbands and in-laws, even in abusive situations"(Clay 71). This trend of women now being kept away only for her husband seems unfathomable, but for many young girls it was their
On average, American women make seventy seven cents to a man's dollar. Since they bother to get an education and work hard at a job, they feel that they should be able to earn just as much as men do. A second thing is that some women want birth control to be more easily accessible. And they also want the right to decide if they want to have an abortion or not. Many states have laws against abortion, and others are shutting down preexisting abortion clinics.
Women made the impossible possible. They joined forces and formed associations. They went on marches and raised awareness of the inequality that women were facing. They risked their lives so they can get the same and deserved rights than men do. Women did everything possible just so they could vote and not be dependent on men.
During this time, women had to take up many responsibilities, in replace of the men who were fighting in war. For example, women had to earn money for the family, which left them no choice but to get a job. With men being gone and nobody to control their lives, women took advantage of their new-found freedom. Fashion became a large influence on women in the 1920’s. This allowed women to become independent and free from the society.
This very much complicated the assumption that women should marry. A series of female educational pioneers had also emerged and their efforts formed part of a much wider movement of campaigners who sought to bring women equal rights to study, work, own property and vote. This resulted in a great number of changes in the lives of women2. Women had started to gain a voice in politics. This was a big change as, before this period, women hadn’t been able to put forth ideas to even challenge legislation let alone contribute to the making of new laws.
