There are many ethical issues Americans deal with day to day. One important ethical issue that has been battled by many is abortion. The ethical issue of abortion has been in the news since the 1970’s with the court decision of Roe v. Wade and remains an issue today. Nature of the dilemma In the Roe v. Wade court decision it was decided that women have the right to privacy under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment. There were only two stipulations under the decision: protecting prenatal life and protecting the women's health. All over in the news throughout the states, there is a battle between pro-choice and anti-choice people. Pro-choice Americans believe they should have the right to terminate their pregnancy. Wade has been upheld in many cases addressing the abortion laws in the United States. According to Wikipedia (2013), “The ethical debate over abortion usually surrounds the issues of whether a fetus has rights, in particular a right to life, and whether the pregnant woman's rights over her own body justify abortion even if the fetus has a right to life. For many, there is a strong association between religion and abortion ethics.” (Sec. 4 Ethical Debate). The abortion laws are different in many countries. Wade decisions. On February 1st President Obama created a Press Release that presented the regulations that would implement the contraceptive-coverage policy to women’s health. Iiyse Hogue the President of NARAL Pro-Choice America stated regarding the statement from President Obama (2013), “Today’s draft regulation affirms yet again the Obama administration’s commitment to fulfilling the full promise of its historic contraception policy,” said Hogue. “Thanks to this commitment, most American women will get birth-control coverage without extra expense. Increased access to birth control is a huge win for women and is necessary to prevent unintended pregnancy--a goal on which both pro-choice and anti-choice people ought to agree.” (para. 3). Overall many Americans believe that women should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to have children. President Obama’s plan was implemented to overcome some controversy of both parties over abortion but ee will always have controversy over abortion.
