The government or the church should not fool them, and manipulate them as salves. Hank points out that all of the taxes comes from these poor independent workers, neither the church nor the bishops pays slightly of it. Every single man of the family must work gratis for the lord and bishop, and no one ever denies this. Why? How come no one ever has the urge to stand up for them, to claim for what they deserve?

The upper and ruling class used power to make them superior to theses who they thought were beneath them, who were the middle class but note specifically the poor. They made they poor and middle class pay taxes to them which in turn made the upper class wealthy. The poor suffered powerlessness because they were poor, therefore they were placed at the bottom of the social ladder.

There were many important themes present in this story that relate to choices we make and the consequences that comes with it. harmony runs very strong in Cannery Row. While economically on the lowest end of society, Mack and the boys live with a happiness and harmony that many who acquire great wealth never have. In a way, it is a rebellion against the sadness caused by the Great Depression. These characters are not going to let material cares and wants get in the way of life. Many people reverse the idea and believe life is material cares and wants.
Gatsby on the other hand is rich but was poor so he was raised with morals. He would never do that to Daisy and loves her so much. Nick is just disgusted in Tom for how he is. He doesn’t understand how Daisy and Tom stay together just because they are rich. He believes you should be together for love and happiness not for just being comfortable.
It seems that from both stories the characters carry out very different actions, but they all have a fundamental bond, selfishness and the desire to be something they are not. It also seems that they are judged in the eyes of the narrator, as either succeeding or failing due to the way they carried themselves throughout the story, we feel the failure at the beginning of two stories, than we see some kind of becoming better people at the end. The authors uses many ironic situations in these two stories “The Necklace” and “A Good Man Is Hard To Find” to reveal how greed can affect a life. People still know the old proverb which says: "Money does not buy happiness." It has been said in many different ways over the time, but for some odd reason, mankind cannot take hold of those words of truth.
Therefore, like an ignorant individual, I assumed that my living was the standard of living of everyone else’s. I had many richer friends, which also made me think that my standard of living was average. However, thinking critically, there are tons of people who do not have the means or the grades to go to an educational level beyond high school and therefore receive minimum wage jobs without a good opportunity for promotion because those will be handed to people with the higher educational people. Also, that leaves very little room to improve the condition of living that you find yourself in. Therefore most of the times you will find yourself marrying an individual of the same economic class due the nature that nobody wants to date someone of lower class as you.
This shows that he is highly unpopular with lawyers as he believes if they do not do their job properly they should be fined however lawyers are the only category which state that he is un-liked compared to the ‘whole people’.
