"Hounding the Innocent" Summary In “Hounding the Innocent” by Bob Herbert talks about how there has been more people being pulled over just so they can be humiliated by the police. The people that are being humiliated are Hispanics and African Americans but it’s really the minorities. The minorities are being stopped for no reason just so they can be seen as the “bad” people. More than 45,000 people have been stopped in 1997 and 1998. The State Police in Oklahoma humiliated an Army General Gerald for two hours and his son because they were African American.
“Overzealous officials” grill suspicious foreigners “to the point of near panic” (Khan 559). In worst cases, death has occurred Haitians seeking refuge, a man was not allowed to keep his medication while he was put in Krome (Danticant 569). The profiling does not only happen with officials, but many Americans often profile foreigners. Americans heightened suspicion on not only non-Americans, but on Americans with Middle Eastern traits. Americans know “racial profiling is both morally wrong and ineffective”, but they rather be safe than sorry (Chavez 563).
He also displays a sense of frustration when he writes that “the verdict, which should have been shocking, was delivered with the inevitability that Black Americans know too well when criminal law announces that they are worth less than other Americans” (Yankah, 2013, p.A23). The author continues to make his feelings known about the verdict in this case by stating that many Black Americans feel angry because
The 10th Juror is prejudiced and racist against the boy and his race as well as his background. The 10th Juror ignores the evidence which results in him continually fighting against those who are voting not guilty, for no particular reason but his prejudice. Juror 11 disagreed with Juror 3, 7 and 10 as Juror 11 talked based on facts and he is strictly looking for justice rather than the people who just voted guilty for no real reason. The playwright indicates that the facts and truth is of outstanding importance when deliberating a judicial trial. Rose explores the idea that extreme prejudice can blind people to the truth.
Army Spc. Tevin Geike, was murdered by a fellow servicemen at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. The victim, 20-year-old Tevin Geike, had been walking at approximately 2am with two other soldiers on Saturday Oct. 5 in a Tacoma Washington suburb. A car containing 5 African-American men drove by and yelled racial statements about being white to the three men who are all Caucasian. Initially it was believed to be a hate crime but now lead investigators believe that race was not a motivating factor.

Morally incorrect, that is what it is called. Do you see how the society can be wrong about morally correct and incorrect ideas? The title of this novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, shows he idea of innocence being harmed by people that are out to hurt them. Society will get into great trouble if it happens and does not stop. Three words; Twenty-two letters: Destruction.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee there is a trail that takes place about a black man named Tom Robinson who is accused for raping a 19 year old woman named Mayella Ewell. Simply this was considered an utter failure and did not give Tom Robinson a fair trial which can be proven by three specific pieces of evidence. The first piece of evidence that shows that Tom Robinson did not receive a fair trial was because he did not receive the right to have a fair trial. The first way is that if the accused does not receive a fair trial he/she and it is ruled that the trial was unfair, the accused may typically restart the trial or have the verdict voided. The second is because it was clear throughout the book that the trial was
Just by giving a few examples one could speculate that the confession isn’t valid and is influenced by the author’s voice. Joseph Mountain was indeed a criminal but to call him a rapist is false. The fact that Joseph was an African American gave society to the right to call him a rapist and execute him just because he tried to talk to two white women. What else is known is that since he has a history of pretty crime this makes the story stick to some readers but I have debunked the accusation. It is clear that
Lawyers convinced the LAPD to allow Simpson to turn himself in at 11 am on June 17, 1994[16]:87 even though the double murder charge meant no bail and a possible death penalty verdict if convicted. [17] Over 1,000 reporters waited for Simpson at the police station, but he failed to appear. At 2 pm, the Los Angeles Police Department issued an all-points bulletin. At 5 pm Robert Kardashian, a Simpson friend and one of his defense lawyers, read a rambling letter by Simpson to the media. [18]:22 In the letter Simpson sent greetings to 24 friends and wrote, "First everyone understand I had nothing to do with Nicole's murder ... Don't feel sorry for me.
