These groups are being stopped just because they seem like the “bad” people. White police officers stop minorities just to see if they can find anything illegal on them so they can face humiliation or jail time. Profiling anybody because they are of a certain race is unconstitutional. An Army General and his son were being humiliated for two hours because they were African American. They both were handcuffed against their car for no valid reason.
You know how many black man graduate? Not many, because you bring them down to this type of level, where they feel like they don’t have nothing else to live for anyway” An angry St. Louis mother said after her unarmed son was shot 6 time and killed by a white officer. After listening to this I felt her pain because she is speaking the truth. Society had been targeting the black community and black for the longest. It feel like they are pushing us back to segregation times where we was separated by race.
Especially the first one, Marcelo with the fact that he experienced racial hatred through his brother’s murder and is still angry about it till this day. Marcelo was stabbed to death by a white individual due to the stereotypes about Marcelo’s ethnicity. Marcelo’s death was a perfect example of the racial hatred that most people in the United States feel towards illegal immigrants. His purpose
The percentages of the people that are arrested in New Orleans are young African American Males. Now are all them all committing horrible crimes like murder? Well some are, but instead of these crooked cops trying to do undercover work they should be stopping the real problems. Many of New Orleans police officers are not in it for the safety of our city. There polices officers that arrested men with weed just to keep it and sell it back to another drug dealer so that they make money off of it.
TKAM and Rodney King Trial The Rodney King trial and Tom Robinsons case in “To Kill a Mockingbird” were similar because they both were examples of injustices. Rodney King was driving home one night and was pulled over and asked to step out of the car. He was beaten badly that day by four police officers and was sent to the hospital but was released. No arrests were made, but the police officers were sentenced to court and three of the four officers were acquitted and the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on one of the officers. Rodney King had reached a settlement worth 4 million dollars and later on two of the four officers were sent to prison and the other two were acquitted.
After seven days of jury deliberation, on April 29, 1992, all four officers were acquitted of the charges they were facing. The African-American community in Los Angeles had already felt strongly that the police were guilty of racial profiling and abuse. Immediately following news of the trial, thousands of people in the Los Angeles area began rioting, which lasted for six days and ended up being one of the biggest riots in history in the United States, later became known as the “1992 Los Angeles Civil Unrest” and “Rodney King Uprising”. Fifty-three deaths, over two thousand people injured, and property damages of close to one billion dollars were just some of the unfortunate events caused during these six days of rioting. After six days, the U.S. Army, the Marines, and the National Guard were able to restore
They were nine african american teens arrested for crimes they didn't commit. Having to go to court with poor representatives, biased juries, and a little bit of evidence led to the nine boys being sentenced to death. (Other half of paragraph missing) Harper Lee's purpose and perspective in writing To Kill a Mockingbird, was to illustrate to the reader the severity of the racial issues in the south during the 1930's. She wanted to show that white people are just as bad as colored people. Tom Robinson's trial
Stephanie Rios Instructor: Joey Poole Eng101 15 September 2015 On March 3, 1991, an African-American man was caught by the Los Angeles police after a high-speed chase. The officers pulled him out the car and beat him brutally while a resident caught it all on tape. Four LAPD officers were indicted with charges, however, after a year of trial, a white jury acquitted the officers. That decision sparked violence in all of Los Angles. Chaos surrounded the city, infuriated mobs roamed the streets, and several citizens were injured, dead, and arrested.
It split as new militant groups formed, where leaders believed non-violence was useless, and they had to fight with violence. These groups included the Black Muslins and the Black Panther Movement in 1966, they believed in Black Separatism and were against King. In the 20th century, life had already changed a lot, but there were still problems. For example, in 1998, three White men linked to the Klu Klux Klan chained a disabled Black man to the back of their truck and dragged him along a country road until he died. Then, in February 2000, four New York policemen were found innocent of the murder of a Black suspect.
Rodney King, a black construction worker in Los Angeles, California, was on probation for previous charges of robbery when he was involved in a high-speed chase with the Los Angeles police department. King was eventually apprehended by the police officers and then beating by at least 3 of the 5 officers to near- death, while the other two officers did nothing to stop or prevent the racially motivated police brutality. The beating was recorded by a near-by onlooker on his balcony and viewed nationwide by millions of American’s. Public outraged ensued and the notorious LA Riots soon followed the horrific beating of Rodney King. Eventually, during the trial of Rodney King against the officers who beat him, the federal Judge, John Davies, harshly criticized King for provoking the officers to commit such brutality and further said that the police men were right in the actions that they took.
