She had been shot in the back four times, the pools of her blood on the rocks covered with sand. Only a bit of her clothing remained uncovered to show where she had been buried. The police soon turned to a local boy named Alvin Heaton junior under suspicion of the crime. He was detained, questioned and eventually charged with the murder of Mary Stevens. He went to trial and was found guilty of her murder, sentenced to life in prison at hard labor.
Poyck and Valdez were eventually arrested the same day. “In 1972, William Van Poyck, at age 17, was sentenced to life in prison” (Killing People In the Name of Teaching That Killing is Wrong) for armed robbery with a deadly weapon. He was originally sent to Starke, which is known as the toughest prison in the state, but in 1977 Poyck was sent to a place called The Rock for bad behavior. He escaped from The Rock by making a key to open a security door and then cutting through fences. A month later, after his escape he was caught.
Charles was arrested in Indiana and escaped from a juvy center after just four days confinement, getting away in a stolen car. On his way to visit some Illinois relatives, the then 13 year old performed more robberies. Manson had been sent off to a reform school in Plainfield, Indiana, where he spent three years. At this location, he recollects violent abuse by older boys and guards. If we can find it possible to trust his memory, he claims at least one guard encouraged other boys to rape and torture Manson, while the officer masturbated on the
The penalty for sitting in the wrong car was either 20 days in jail or a $25 fine. Plessy agreed, and purchased a first-class ticket on the train to Covington, Louisiana. He took a seat in the Whites Only car and waited for the conductor. When the conductor arrived, Plessy informed him that he was 1/8 Black and that he was refusing to move to the colored car. The conductor called the police and had Plessy arrested immediately; he spent the night in the local jail and was released the next morning on bond.
Venezuela’s prison La Sabeneta is one of the worst prisons due to that they have one guard to every 150 inmates. Corruption and bribery is normal with the staff and 624 hurt and 196 murdered in 1995 shows the brutality of the prison when an inmate had a gun battle with the inmates. La Sante prison in France is well known for its high suicide rate with 124 suicides in just 1999. Some have even eaten rat poison to escape from living there. Many have become slaves while others only leave their cells for 4 hours a day.
In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the rape trail of Tom Robinson vs Mayella Ewell, an African American man accused of raping a white teenage girl was held in a bias court room of Maycomb County. Tom Robinson was proven innocent but the end verdict did not match the proof, because no jury would chose to listen to a black man over a white girl due to the state of prejudice Maycomb was under. Racism this town got to the point where when Atticus Finch, a white lawyer chose to represent Tom in the case he was a disgrace and an outcast to the white community. Not only Atticus but his children all suffered from the judgement they were receiving from the whole community for Atticus representing an innocent man. Since children were exposed to this behavior the racism has been passed down to generation to generation.
In 1975 Ted was arrested in Utah but was released due to the little evidence, Two years later was convicted of kidnapping and escaped. Ted Bundy killed three people in Florida and was arrested but his parents bailed him out and he sold his car but police impounded it away from new owner. It was then when forensic evidence finally solved this case by finding three different hairs matching the three victims killed in Ted’s car and matched his teeth marks the a bite mark on one of the victims. He was then was sentenced to three death penalties in 1978 when Ted was recaptured and on January 24, 1989 at Railford prison in Starke, Florida Ted Bundy was executed in the electric chair. My opinion on this case was interesting yet disgusting but Ted Bundy was smart about how he attracted his victims.
Pate. A mentally handicapped 19 year old was arrested for suspicion of stealing bikes. The police interrogated him for four days in large groups, with the teen’s hearing aid, he was sick, he wasn’t being adequately fed, and he was without council or his parents. After four days he confessed to being part of a murder, and was sentenced to 199 years. The court did recognize however that the boy was coerced and that the state violated the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment by using his written statements as evidence in his
People aren't willing to accept change and theirs not much you can do in the 1930's to change that because it was "sociality acceptable" not to. Racism was given to its full potential in this novel by displaying that of Tom Robinson being charged on a crime that he did not commit. He is accused of raping a white women by one of the most untrustworthy people in the town. This was just another accusation in this time but ended as most did, with the wrong outcome chosen because of social inequality. Differences in social status are explored largely through the overcomplicated social status.
