Renaissance Comparison Essay The indication of Italian culture and rebirth from the medieval era began with the transformations that transpired throughout the Italian Renaissance. Society was shifting and the modern world was at its beginning. Italian values and characteristics were transferred out of Italy and into Europe created the Northern European Renaissance this was the renaissance activity that was identified outside of Italy. “Renaissance” is a French word meaning “rebirth.” The Renaissance period started in the early 14th century and continued into late 16th century. This era is known and studied for great cultural changes, literature, art, music, and successes in Europe.
Music was an essential part of civic, religious, and courtly life in the Renaissance. The rich interchange of ideas in Europe, as well as political, economic, and religious events in the period 1400–1600 led to major changes in styles of composing, methods of disseminating music, new musical genres, and the development of musical instruments. The most important music of the early Renaissance was composed for use by the church—polyphonic (made up of several simultaneous melodies) masses and motets in Latin for important churches and court chapels. By the end of the sixteenth century, however, patronage was split among many areas: the Catholic Church, Protestant churches and courts, wealthy amateurs, and music printing—all were sources of income for composers. The early fifteenth century was dominated initially by English and then Northern European composers.
It was also the next and most glorious phase in Art History. The word Renaissance came from the Italian word “rinascita”, which means "rebirth," describes the radical and comprehensive changes that happened in European during the 15th and 16th centuries. Most of the paintings were done in Florence and Rome. There was a focus on painting human anatomy, nudes, facial expressions and human sculptures. The High Renaissance occurred in Milan, Florence smaller bits scattered here and there throughout northern and central Italy but it was centered mostly in Rome and mostly support by the Popes.
Many important events came from this era, including a surge in human awareness appropriately called “Humanism”, the re-visiting classic art styles from Ancient Roman and Greek times, and a boom in scientific discoveries. The Renaissance was a marvelous time, indeed, the influence of which can still be seen today. The Renaissance: Defining an Era The word “Renaissance” literally translates to mean “rebirth”, this appropriately describes what takes place during this exciting time in history. The Renaissance Era is identified as the time period following the Middles Ages. “The term Middle Ages was coined by scholars in the 15th century as the time between the downfall of Classical Greece and Rome and its rediscovery at the start of their own century.” (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2014) Renaissance is also said to have ended the Dark Ages, metaphorically being the point of man’s enlightenment.
Personal prayer can be in words. But it can also take the form of "inexpressible groanings" ( speaking in tongues ) as the Holy Spirit may guide the soul. There are two major categories of personal devotion in Christianity, traditional and formal prayer and informal and spontaneous prayer. Traditional and formal types of personal for example, Hail Mary and the Lord’s Prayer are more commonly used in certain communities. Informal and spontaneous prayers on the other hand are widely used by adherents across the spectrum of Christian denominations Traditional and formal prayer covers a wide range of occasions.
The Renaissance The Renaissance was a time period of extensive cultural rebirth. It was the first step towards “the emergence of modern identity and individuality” (Brotton 1). It is important to understand that there was not only one Renaissance. While most history textbooks focus on the major renaissance centered in Italy, Brotton explains that there were renaissances in the Islamic and South-East Asian worlds as well as others that overlapped with the Italian Renaissance. Enveloped in this worldly reform was the start of a new ideology known as Renaissance Humanism.
What does ‘RENAISSANCE’ mean? The term renaissance is derived from the French word meaning ‘REBIRTH’. It is used to describe this phase of European history because many of the changes experienced between the 14th and 16th centuries were inspired by a revival of the classical art and intellect of Ancient Greece and Rome. Much of the art, architecture, literature, science and philosophy that surfaced during the Renaissance was so reminiscent of this ancient past, that is seemed as through Europe was indeed reborn during the late Middle Ages. That’s why; the Renaissance was a time of great social and cultural changes in Europe.
Renaissance Period The Renaissance was a great cultural movement that began in Italy during the early 1400’s. It spread to England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and other countries in the late 1400’s and ended in the 1700’s. It is one of the most beautiful, names in history(Wikipedia 1). It is beautiful because it shows an awakening of awareness. During this period of time, the modern world was born as Gutenberg perfected printing, Christopher Columbus discovered the Americas, Copernicus found that the earth revolved around the sun, Martin Luther founded a new religion, the use of the cannon and the harquebus ended chivalry and da Vinci and Michelangelo created a new form of art.

The term Baroque is used to describe the art, sculpture, architecture and music in the period between the years 1600 to 1750. It is also defined as the period between the end of Renaissance and the beginning of Neoclassicism, although between Renaissance and Baroque it was interspersed another great stylistics stage called Mannerism. Besides, at the end of Baroque came up another interesting stage, Rococo, connected to Baroque but in an extreme way, with a lot of interest and care on the characteristics of the period. The word Baroque comes from the Portuguese, and means “fake jewellery” or “irregular pearl”.
