Renaissance Comparison Essay Tasha Smith HUM/205 February 3, 2013 Renaissance Comparison Essay The beginning phase of renaissance was by the Italian renaissance. It was a period of numerous cultural changes and achievement throughout Europe. It lasted through the end of the 13th century and up to about the 1600’s. It was marked as the transition of Europe from the medieval period to the Early Modern Europe. The Northern Renaissance is used to describe the Renaissance in northern Europe, or more broadly in an area of Europe outside of Italy. Before 1450 the Italian Renaissance humanism had very little influence outside Italy. The resulting German Renaissance, French Renaissance, English Renaissance, Renaissance in the Netherlands, Polish Renaissance and other national and localized movements with different characteristics and strengths. In Northern Europe the Renaissance began during the fifteenth century and lasted through most of the sixteenth century. Thus, the Renaissance was heavily influenced by the earlier Italian Renaissance. It was then common for people to travel south across the Alps and return north with the ideas and styles they were exposed to in northern Italy. Nonetheless, the Northern Renaissance had characteristics that distinguished it from the Italian Renaissance. Like, it was more integrated with Christian concerns. As an example, more emphasis was placed on learning Classical languages to improve translations of the Bible. They also studied Classical literature for its relation to Christian ideals and life. Also producing artistic creations with predominantly religious themes. Social and cultural differences between the two time periods are reflected in the arts in many ways. During the
