Reflective Essay Childbirth encompasses one of the most important essences of being a female. By achieving the primary biological function of reproduction human race, proliferation and continuous existence is possible inspite of its eventual death from time to time because every living species has its definite life span. Childbirth (also called labor, birth, or parturition) is the culmination of a human pregnancy or gestation period with the birth of one or more newborn infants from a woman's uterus. The process of normal human childbirth is categorized in three stages of labor: the shortening and dilation of the cervix, descent and birth of the infant, and birth of the placenta.[1] In many cases, with increasing frequency, childbirth is achieved through caesarean section, the removal of the neonate through a surgical incision in the abdomen, rather than through vaginal birth.[2] The onset of labor evokes many emotions. Although I was not the one who actually experienced the labor pains, I experienced a lot of emotions upon witnessing a mother in labor at that time. I am excited in a way because this is one of my firsts and I can’t wait to see what was in store for a neophyte like me in this field. I…show more content…
People always talk about working less, eating more but eating more will not help always. The mother should always eat according to her appetite but the food should be protein and nutrient rich. One should not indulge in the activities requiring too much physical effort and mental stress. Even after the baby is born, for the first few months mothers should not perform tasks involving physical or mental stress. It is because the muscles become weak after giving birth and they require time to regain their strength back. Including supplements in the diet always help in regaining strength in a speedy
