He never knew his father so he doesn’t have a good sense of his own identity, he makes poor decisions in raising his son’s by instilling a false sense of what it takes to be successful, and allows them to steal and cheat. Willy’s father left when he was a baby and he only has one memory of his dad, “All I remember is a man with a big beard, and I was in mamma’s lap, sitting around a fire, and some kind of high music” (Miller 1232). After his older brother Ben leaves shortly thereafter to search for their father, it is assumed that Willy doesn’t have a male figure in his life during his upbringing to teach him the things that a father would teach a son, such as morals, and a sense of values, possibly helping him form a sense of identity. Because of this Willy feels a tremendous sense of loss. Willy confesses his sense of loss over his father’s abandonment to Ben.
Walt often calls Thao "Toad." With no father in the family, he is expected to be the man of the house, but he lacks direction and initially does chores at the direction of his sister Sue. Thao is soon coerced into joining the Hmong gang by his gangster cousins. After Thao clumsily attempts to steal Walt's car as part of his forced gang initiation, he returns home instead of fleeing with the gang. After confessing the attempted crime to his family, Thao's mother and sister bring him to Walt to apologize and make amends to the community as Walt's servant.
Boo's brother, Nathan, who lives in the house, thinks he hears a prowler and fires his gun. The children run away, but Jem loses his pants in a fence. When he returns in the middle of the night to get them back, they have been neatly folded. Other mysterious things happen to Scout, Jem. A certain tree near the Radley house has a hole in which little presents are often left for them.
Other characters are the boys in Stanley’s work group at the camp, the warden at the camp and her men, Mr. Sir and Mr. Pendanski. Stanley’s family is cursed because his “pig stealing” great great-grandfather, Elya Yelnats, does not keep his promise to Madame Zeroni. Nothing good happens to the men in his family because of the curse. His grandfather made a lot of money but it was stolen from him by Kate Barlow when he kissed her. She left him in the desert to die but he lives.
Daniel don’t tell Granddad about he’s relation to Frank (Baker girl) because he knows granddad is in love in her. Daniel gets thrown out of his portacabin because he can not pay the rent, and then he get a job as a guinea pig on the sleep clinic and then he have a place to sleep. A night Frank is on the sleep clinic with Daniel, granddad discovers them and gets really angry and firer Daniel as guinea pig. Daniel and Frank take a drive out to Frank's grandmother and she dies, and then they take over her old house. Frank become pregnant and Daniel don’t think he is ready to get a child and he fled in panic, and take a flight to Spain.
Later, he finds this boy standing in the front of a shop, he seems sad and therefor he offers him to go back home with him. 1. person narrator is used, through the whole story. That gives the reader a stronger relationship to the narrator and this sad story. The narrator has gone through a lot through his life; he has grown up in a trailer park alone with his mother, we are never told where his father is. The narrator also has an uncle, who seems like an alcoholic small time crook.
This is apparently a problem to them, for the boy had no desires, given his incurable mental illness, “Mad-made objects…could be found in his abstract world.” The couple finally picked a basket with jellies for their son. This makes the reader deeply sympathise the boy’s plight, for a “young man” like him would usually have no interests in jellies which are a suitable present for children. It reflects what his sickness has reduced him to – a teen with intelligence of a child. The boy repeatedly contemplates suicide, and has had yet another failed attempt to do so, and the couple is unable to see him, for fear that “a visit might disturb him”. The couple is revealed to be at a rather old age, “At the time of his birth…now they were quite old.” Their son’s illness has put a huge financial burden on the little family – the father used to be a successful businessman, but is now “wholly dependent on his brother Isaac”.
In on of the houses they clean windows for a boy from school named Martin lives. One night when Martin finds out how many money the boy collects for the window cleaning, he steals the bag with the money. The next day Phil and the boy go to Martins house to confront him about the stealing, but Martin denies completely. The next day Phil fires the boy. And the boy keeps on dreaming about, being a sports leader one day.
Deceit simply does not pay off. When Cory was a young lad of nine years of age, he and a select group of pals stole packages of Korean delicacies on Halloween from a local foreign grocery store.. The worst part of it all was that he could not, or rather would not, fess up. “He had lain in his bed thinking, I hurt in my guts.” (Wolff). Cory’s deception caused such inner strife that he physically hurt in his stomach, or at least thought he did, but yet there he was, six years later, still struggling with his conscience after hearing about the fire and reflecting on that fateful Halloween night almost half his life-time ago.
He is not hiding why doesn’t want to visit his family. When Fanton was a young boy his brothers hunted him and taunted him, as said in the story “He was startled by the sound of Peter roaming his name. The summons might have meant anything from “Mom wants you for dinner” to “prepare for a beating”” or “Over the years they have bloodied his nose, pulled down his pants and squeezed the sides of his lips while forcing him to repeat “I’m a pretty baby” over and over again”. Therefor when Fanton lost his favorite model car he was quick to blame his brothers, accusing them for taking it and hiding it his reaction is described like this in the story:”Fintan went to the kitchen and threw the only tantrum of his life. While his mother and brothers looked on, he shrieked, stamped, broke a dish and went stiff as a corpse”.
