These items may be present as either an acid chemical solution, basic chemical solution or a neutral chemical solution. Acidic solution meaning any item with a high PH, connoting potential hydrogen, neutral meaning nor a high or low PH and base meaning an item with a low PH. We use a PH scale to measure the concentration of acidity and alkalinity in a chemical solution. It is determined that acids tend to loose their potential hydrogen easily whereas bases are more than likely to hold on to their hydrogen. On a PH scale ranging from one to fourteen, the chemical solutions between one and six are considered strong acids, chemical solutions that have a PH level of 7 are neutral and bases are regarded as chemical solutions that lie eight and above up to 14. Acidic, neutral and basic solutions can be found just about anywhere, such as in your house and can be used in various common household chores. Acids can be found in vinegar which has the formula C2H402 (vinegar acetic acid) used as dressing on salad, to heal an upset stomach and pickling processes. They can also be found in citric acid C6H8O7, oranges, lemons and limes, can be used in sachets for injecting drug users. Bases can be found in toothpaste, which is used to clean teeth, CH3C00H, also found in many household cleaning items is jiff house cleaner, which used to clean toilets and shower screens C3H805, salt another base which is used to add flavor to bread and pastries NaCI. Neutral solutions can be found in water H2O, used in nearly everything, from quenching your thirst to washing your car. To determine whether a household item is an acid, base or neutral solution, indicators are used. An indicator is a
