The attitudes in the novel of many characters do not cause anything but harm as it is evident in the course of the story. This negatively impacts many inhabitants of Maycomb. It essentially caused much emotional pain to Tom Robinson who was eventually sentenced to Jail unlawfully. This lead to his death when he was trying to escape Jail where he suffered physically. It also had its negative effects on Atticus, when he was called degrading names like ‘nigger lover’ and being treated badly by the townspeople for defending Tom.
“Mississippi Masala” review Racism has been a hindering problem in virtually every society ever since there has been variation in the human genome. Most people tend to prefer the company of people who are more similar to them, whether they consciously realize it or not. Problems begin when that preference is applied only to superficial traits, such as skin color. This can stifle progress, because prejudice limits resources that a society can use, lowers their versatility, and creates hostility. Mississippi Masala, directed by Mira Nair, explores the problem of racial oppression of Indian people by blacks in African Uganda and the racial segregation and prejudice against blacks in Mississippi, of the United States.
At the point in time people were very harsh and unfair to those of a different race just because they were not the same color as the majority. Although a lot of this book was of negative bashing and racist remarks it ends with a feeling of motivation and confidence. These eight African Americans entered and school knowing that they were consistently going to be harassed and knew how much bull they were going to take but did it regardless. Amanda Porter 12 Angry Men GROUPTHINK VS. MINORITY INFLUENCE The jury situation portrayed in 12 Angry men had a lot of symptoms that would normally lead to a groupthink phenomenon. For example, the majority of the group had a belief in the moral correctness of their decision—they were punishing a bad person, they had a stereotyped view of the people who opposed them (bleeding heart, do-gooders). There was extreme pressure to conform, an illusion of unanimity (at least in the beginning), many of the jurors engaged in self-censorship (they didn’t initially voice their opinions) and strong personalities that were trying to push the group in a certain direction. Despite these symptoms, the minority was able to override the majority and sway the vote
Even if after the initial judgment takes place and their base opinion is changed, because this person is ‘different from the norm’ the initial judgment did occur, and that person did assume personality qualities to that person for know reason other than race, and personal beliefs that people have about that specific ‘kind of person.’ I have met people of all different races who judge others by their skin color or by their culture unintentionally. The quote also illustrates how racial prejudice oppresses people into staying in their current social status. The quote shows how racial prejudice leads to most, if not all of the Younger family’s problems. The Younger family lives during an oppressive era during the civil rights movement. Despite many generations of hard work and perseverance, the Younger family still faces many of the issues that they faced many years ago. Racial prejudice is a limiting quality that demoralizes people.
Amusing in the sense that two lines in a story about a fictional doll can be taken and distorted to cause so much anger in one community. After researching and reading more on this topic I was able to understand the feelings this community felt. They felt not only was it attacking the neighborhood but the people in the neighborhood. Their reasoning is that Pilsen is mostly hispanics and anyone who reads the story would associate the derogatory statements with the race. Stories like this do cause people to think the worst.

The main effect is that ethnic stereotypes affect their normal life and bring so much inconvenience to them. Then, part of stereotypes increase cultural conflict and racial discrimination. It is difficult for people to get together and make friends with others. Meanwhile, we pay more attention on characteristics that stereotypes describe and ignore the special thing of each of us. In conclusion, although racial stereotypes talk about the advantages about them like the whiz-kid, they also have negative effects to people and the
