Science, they claim, has disproved the reality of race, and only prejudice gives it validity. Because there is no solid evidence that can be scientifically proven that race exists, there is no such thing as race in this world. There was a theory that once upon a time, everybody was the same and all were equal. As civilizations started to disperse and the people scattered across the continents, however, things began to change. The people who moved to what is now known as Africa gradually grew darker since they started adapting to the strong sunlight.
Well race is an idea because in our past we did not split up people into different ethnic groups by different physical variances. Race is not biological because their is not enough genetic differences between groups of people. In fact there would be hundreds of races around the world if so. You may have a lot
The discussion of race must involve the discussion of stereotyping in general. Race is a form of stereotyping that we as humans do to divide ourselves into groups; these groups such as race are the building blocks of our societal order. If a society is constructed in such a way, it benefits some, who are born with inherent seemingly natural advantages, while undermining other groups. People of lighter skin have advantages that they did not have to earn but have simply because they were born into a family with a lighter shade of skin. It has been scientifically proven that race has nothing to do with biology, and on the surface it appears to only be a physical factor, however there are much more far-reaching implications.
We have so much that we can teach one another if we do not let ignorance stand in our way. There is no reason why we can’t start teaching live instead of hatred and we can live amongst each other in harmony. A diverse group, as we have here in American gives us a taste of every thing from food and clothing to life in itself and we do not have to venture to these different destinations to learn about it because we have it here. To me, that is the beauty of being diverse. Learning to accept the opinions of others as well as well as accepting the differences we have will help to foster the climate of acceptance.
Race is a idea that has made an extreme impact on society and communities all across the world. Although race is not a new concept, it is still practiced and dealt with daily. No other place in world has had race make such a deep impact on society and daily life as much as the United States of America. This realization of the importance of race has continued to be something that is still important in various aspects of life. The Origin and establishment of race is clear, but why is race so important and is it biologically or environmentally?
As we are introduced to new people we automatically try to assign a race to that individual (Kurzban, Tooby & Cosmides, 2001). Whether applying for passport, a job or a drivers licence we are forced to categorise and assign ourselves to a particular race. When we read a paper or watch the news we are regularly bombarded by race related stories. The emphasis placed upon race by the media and the government leads us to believe that race is imperative when it comes to identifying ourselves any other individual (Kennedy, 1995). When skeletal remains are found it is the role of the forensic anthropologist to determine an identity.
Since the toddlers I look after are unable to communicate verbally to me, I continue to speak aloud to them and I ensure that I emphasize the tone of my voice to suit the situation. Sometimes I incorporate some hand actions to convey a meaning i.e. lunch time, music time, time to change a nappy are a few examples. As the toddlers are unable to speak fluently yet I provide written communication to the parents on a daily basis and this enables them to see and learn about their child’s day to day activities in childcare. This form of communication helps build up a trust between carer and parent.
For example, in speech class, I am accompanied by different classmates that I have not worked with before and gather as a group to share ideas with a common purpose. When problems occur, I am willing to hear everyone’s opinions and thoughts before making an official decision in a tough situation. This shows how I can adapt with others to achieve more than what I could’ve with myself with creative objectives. Also, I always put others before myself. This signifies how I care for others, whether a friend is facing a challenge in their life or volunteering when the community is needing help, I will be the one to be there to help out.
Global and Diversity awareness are inter-related in our everyday lives throughout the world. The first example that comes to mind is how schools are now using text books, films and other study materials that show images of people from all walks of life. Seeing these images helps children learn from a young age that others are learning and growing just as they are even if in a different language or culture. This also helps to show that although someone may look different they are affected by similar if not the same circumstances. Another example is affirmative action.
When you see a group of people, it's in your nature to make and categorize them to make your surrounding reality more pleasant if you would. You aren't going to figure out one's status in life by just looking at them and by the color of their skin, that's just ridiculous. But inside all of us is our own background culture that society has given to us at the very beginning. No matter who you're looking at, you will always
