Pursuing a Lifelong Dream One individual’s response to their own personal dreams, goals or ideals can have a major effect on the lives of others. Martin Luther King Jr. made a direct reference to life by means of his speech called “I Have a Dream.” This brave speech Martin Luther King created shows us of his powerful, independent reaction and is one to be noted because of the outstanding impact he created in his lifetime, the excellent example it provides for us as individuals in proving that pursuing one’s dream leads to great rewards as well as setting a standard for all of humanity to follow. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who set very high standards for himself as well as many more generations to come. The time that Martin Luther King Jr. was alive was one in which racism and discrimination were a part of everyday life, strong hatred existed between fellow Americans and laws were not set to prevent such hatred from occurring. The significance of the speech was the outright disagreement with the general idea of the population at that time. In his speech, he refers to a day when his “four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but the content of their character.” Such a statement highlights the moral and ethical integrity that Martin Luther King Jr. had, but also gives us a strong voice about the way oneself likewise should think. People should not be judged because of their cultural, ethical or religious background. This speech had a major effect on the general opinion of people; most likely also because of the non-violent protests that he organized to physically support his opinion of segregation and racial injustice, he not only talked about his dream, but likewise acted on it. It can be said that his dream has come true in many ways, laws and regulations have been created to prevent such
