Out of love, his parents have made choices to not only protect Paul but to keep him shielded from decision-making knowledge of events, and subjects that they didn’t want him to be exposed to. While his parents may have thought their decisions were more positive then negative, they showed their lack of faith in Paul. They were shielding him from adult information and decisions. They were ultimately limiting his ability to grow-up. Mom made the first choice.
They prayed and Sheriff Jim Clark’s deputies and Major John Cloud’s troopers unblocked the bridge. But Martin Luther King still returned to Brown Chapel and did not press on. This infuriated SNCC, whom after seeing the deputies and troopers move wanted to continue with the demonstration. Martin Luther King had made a deal with Federal Mediators and he did not wish to violate it. But The Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee saw no reason not to continue on because the men had cleared the way and therefore they believed they should be able to move through without problems.
Washington had a very successful career, being a dominant military and political leader. He was a strong, loyal, and dedicated man that fought for what he believed in and did not back down. Without his initiative in war, the United States would not be the way that it is today. A few of his successes include leading victories over Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War, being the first president of the United States, and being very involved in the writing of the United States Constitution. Washington had great ability to lead others, lead by example, and develop others into leaders.
Benjamin Franklin was Born in 1706 to a very large family. He quickly learned many personal virtues that were vital to achieving success and improvement of himself. Many traits that were developed included that of integrity, hard work and discipline.
From in a cell, he jots down almost rebel like ideas, which is to be free from having a religion forced upon any single being. In this initial strategy of steering the emotions of the readers, Pane tells the readers “I believe in one God, and no more” (100), he exposes his stance but does not overly enforce his beliefs so the readers will not be subjected to them. I think that this is very important because if Pane did over insert his views then he would be going against his own teachings. Pane then goes on to talk about a few religions, discussing the problems he finds with them. I found this to be his main strategy of grabbing the reader’s attention and expressing his purpose to them.
King’s emotional speech was very powerful and used many poetic devices. For example, he used repetition when he used the line, “I have a dream,” in order to persuade people of his message. He uses this line because he wants to tell his audience that he sees a positive future in his dream that he wants to make happen. Also, Martin Luther King uses tone. He uses tone in his speech by saying “Let freedom ring …” Dr. King is giving the message of hope to his audience.
I asked Peter to sum up his professional life, and he answered “I have been fortunate… privileged even to have seen history unfold at close quarters.” When finally asking Peter what his greatest accomplishment in life was, his response to me was “Bringing up my two wonderful sons to be young men I am so very proud of, and so fortunate to have.” Peter Cave is a great man, who inspires myself and thousands of others around the globe to open their eyes to what goes on in the world. As you can see Martin Luther King Jr. has changed America in ways that may seem impossible to be done by the voice and actions of a single man. This man has proved to people that they can do anything that they believe and change things so that they are right. He became well educated and went to many colleges, he became a great leader, he had gotten many people organized together, he faced the nation with bravery, and he never gave up, and was a hero, and inspired many
Eyes on the Prize “ I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal.” This quote was said by one of the most important civil rights leaders America has ever had, Martin Luther King Jr. Without these words and other powerful speeches told by civil rights leaders such as Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Boise, we might not be sitting next to the person we do in class right now. They were great advocates who helped to shape America into what it is today, a better, more united, stronger place to live. Our very own Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal” and equal is what we are all meant to be. The civil rights movement was a revolution that united our nation for a second time.
The United States of American has risen from an optimistic idea by our Founding Fathers and evolved into the great nation that it is today. It would be difficult to describe only one aspect of what makes America great, as there are many values and ideas which have not only shaped our nation, but inspired individuals at home and all around the world. The “American Dream” is a way of life, based on the idea that if you work hard you will be successful. This idea has endured for well over a century, and people have come to America from all over the world for opportunity and a better way of life. I know this firsthand and have felt the inspirational power of this belief, because my own Father came to the United States with very little money, but an incorrigible desire to work hard and succeed.
