Ethical Case Analysis When considering an environmental ethical dilemma, one must think about the stakeholders who will be affected. In this case, there are many stakeholders inside and outside of the company. The first and most obvious stakeholder is Chantale Leroux. She is the person who has been put in the center of the dilemma and has to decide on how to handle it. She knows that the moral and correct action would be to report the wrongful disposal of the hazardous waste; however, she is put in a difficult situation that could potentially affect her employment at Avco Environmental Services. Another stakeholder is the company itself. If Chantale chooses to be a whistleblower, it could mean that the company shuts down as a result. In that case, other stakeholders are all the people who are employed at Avco Environmental Services. If Chantale becomes a whistleblower, she is not only putting herself and her job at risk, but she is also risking the jobs and well-being of her co-workers. On the other hand however, the company is not complying with proper toxic-waste procedure and that can have a potentially harmful effect on the environment as well as to residents in nearby areas of the landfills that the toxic-waste is being disposed at. The ethical issues that are involved in this case mainly have to do with the safety of the public and the environment. Chantale works for a company that specializes in toxic-waste disposal, and yet the company is making a choice to wrongfully dispose of some of the medical waste in a local municipal landfill, even though the waste requires special treatment. The reason this waste is supposed to be treated specially is to prevent harm to the environment and to the residents around the area, but the company has decided that disposing of just a little bit of it in a landfill will save them money and is worth the risk.
