Reducing Drug Trafficking in the United States Juanita Grice ENG 122 Shelley Lawyer 05/16/2011 Reducing Drug Trafficking in the United States The illegal import of drugs into the United States is a multi-billion dollar a year industry, all of the profit going to criminals, killers and dangerous organizations. If marijuana were legalized and regulated, the marijuana black market would be entirely eliminated and the immense expenditure on both the war on drugs and the sale of drugs could be turned to far more practical applications. While it would not only be used for medical reasons, marijuana should be legalized because it has medical purposes, it is less toxic then some of the drugs we use that are legal, and it could generate…show more content…
If we take away the criminal aspect of the drug by selling it legally in a retail environment, we could maybe start to see less violence in our neighborhoods. If you could buy it locally there would be no need for supply from one of the many cartels. Plus, if you could go any where and buy it you wouldn’t have people on the streets competing to sell it to you. That may also help the prison rate as well because we would have less people locked up for distribution, and possession of…show more content…
