What sources of information are available within the workplace? Sources of information which are available within Mackay Regional Council for MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) can be located on Finance 1, Chemwatch, in other MSDS folders, and also the internet. If you want to locate a particular MSDS on Finance 1 it will be in the manufactures section. If you access Chemwatch and type in which MSDS you are after it will locate the MSDS you require. If you want to search the internet for a certain MSDS, you will need to write which chemical it is and then MSDS at the end. All the above programs apart from the internet cannot be accessed by the general public. How you can determine the reliability, accuracy, currency, relevancy and usefulness of the data information you collect MSDS are a legislative requirement which needs to be supplied by the manufacturer upon request and is to be kept on premises where hazardous chemicals are used. When suppliers provide the MSDS they are reliable because it is the manufacturer’s goods and they know what the product contains. Manufacturers have to produce the MSDS which is passed down to the supplier which is then again passed down to customers. It is against the law to be creating and distributing false documentation to customers and penalties do apply. Why old, wrong, distorted or incomplete information is not useful information Old, wrong, distorted or incomplete information isn’t useful information for an MSDS because if there happens to be an incident within the workplace and an employee’s health is at risk, and the msds is supplying false information for first aid measures, the person in charge of MSDS’s can be liable and penalties will apply.
