PTSD Case Study Learning Team C PSYCH/515 May 10, 2012 Professor Barbara Steffens Abstract Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that will affect many people every year. So far, statistics have shown that 51% of women are experiencing PTSD symptoms while 60% of men are experiencing symptoms of this disorder. However, clinically, women are at a higher rate for developing the PTSD disorder; than men. This disorder is basically trauma that is still in experience from a situation of previous anxiety in one’s life that left a traumatic scar. PTSD disorder can develop within a child during childhood trauma and abuse, or can result from traumatic situations as an adult of an individual. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); is a major contribution to Carl’s development into the person he is today. PTSD disorder can be difficult to gain control over; however, Carl continues to keep moving forward daily. The struggles Carl faces at times are with issues of honesty in his feelings toward himself; which aids in his process to heal. When Carl was young, the decisions for him are toward the ability to try and better his future. His decision on joining up with the military has benefits to his future. However, Carl still feels guilty regarding the regretful decisions he would make that would affect thousands of lives of other people.
