Intro. To Ethics 6 March 2012 To the Editor: I wish to respond to Greg McNeal’s article, ”ESPN Uses ‘Chink in the Armor’ Line Twice”, published on Forbes.com. McNeal states that we need to gather our bearings because the Jeremy Lin inspired “Linsanity” phenomena has started to get ugly and I agree with him that we do. First, the on-air commentary was a few days before the headline came out but ESPN anchor Max Bretos was suspended for 30 days after using the phrase when asking New York Knicks legend Clyde Frazier if Lin had any “chinks in his armor”. Now having said that, the headline post along with the on-air commentary are both going to seem offensive when used to describe anything referring to a person of Asian decent.
Roxanne states, “two Barney’s customers, Trayon Christian and Kayla Phillips, said last week that they were racially profiled and detained by police after making expensive purchases." She hopes that Jay-Z will use his "celebrity leverage" to bring retail racism to light. Roxanne says, "Racial profiling has been “business as usual" for too long. Jay has the power to bring change. And I'm betting Brooklyn's finest will rise to the occasion."
Other witnesses enlightened the jury on the unusual position of John Diamond’s gun on the morning of the murder. It was loaded, cocked, and in the waist band of the experienced police officer and marine. The defense called upon witnesses that concurred in Mr. Diamond teaching Trudi ways in which to disarm a person with a weapon when she felt threatened. This statement brings up another point for why the second round went through her wrist, she was trying to disarm her lover in fear of her
When he did not find the man at home, he sent his investigator to the Boynton Beach Police to ask about Wilder. They told Whittaker they had a lengthy rap sheet on him. He was far from the gentleman that Beth had once described. Hed had a history of sexual offenses. Beth’s parents suddenly realized that on the very night that Beth had visited them for the last time, they had seen a television report about another missing woman one who looked very much like
During the trial, Weekley stated "She hit it in a downward motion. As she hits it down, I start to pull it back. I hear the shot." Jones denies that she struggled for the gun, but the officer insists that's what happened. Joseph Weekley, charged with involuntary manslaughter, said he didn't immediately realize that he had shot Aiyana Stanley-Jones during the 2010 house raid.
Since Janet Jackson's bare breasted reveal during the superbowl in 2004, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) took large steps to crack down on "oscenities, indecencies, and profanity" usage in television. Unfortunately, they aren't staying away from the cable networks as they ought to. Yet, the FCC is seeming to be biased when it comes to judging what is obscene, indecent and profane, that one can only question if they even know how to define the use of profanity themselves. This especially, is getting cable networks fired up because the FCC now wants to start regulation on the cable front, which brings up concerns as to if the FCC is stepping on the networks' first amendment rights. But, the public knowingly buys their cable services, so this begs the question, can't they edit their television?
Obama’s Administration and NRA on Gun Control Debate in America Guni K. Bal PR 336 by Jack Saunders Golden Gate University - Spring 2013 White House Chief of staff Denis McDonough said in an appearance on CNN that, “Obama is not giving up on assault weapons ban being added to an amendment. We are going to work on this. We are going to find the votes. It deserves a vote.”1 It’s easy to get a gun in this country. Hence America has the highest rate in gun violence in the world.2 One big enabler is the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution: Obama’s administration says that guns are weapons of crimes and the NRA says that guns are for safety and protection.
Alex Barr Kimla Virden Comp I. 10-24-11 Gun Violence Gun Violence has been an issue in America for several years. Everybody has their own opinion on it and no one can seem to come to a conclusion on the right answer. Michael Moore in Bowling for Columbine states his opinions and gets other opinions as well. Lillian Rubin who wrote “Guns and Grief” gives several reasons as to why Cho Seung-Hui might have fired at Virginia Tech.
I was in the emergency room for about two days and on that second day the hospital I was in was on lockdown due to a visitors gun discharging. I was scared for my life especially being that young and seeing what happened on 9/11. Thank God no one was hurt by the gun's discharge and the visitor did have a concealed weapons permit. I thought the worst was going to happen because Philadelphia’s crime rate is really high when it comes to gun crimes and murders. The nurses said the visitor had a handgun in her purse when she was visiting the patient.
The main reason is media. Think about it, all you ever see on the news is gun violence. You always see a detailed story on the latest mass shooting and you hear of it days later but you never see that story were a man defended his family from an armed assailant. You never see stories that show firearms under a positive light they are shown to the public as devil’s work. Information sources: USA Today “Aurora gunman reignites debate on devil's bargain” no author.
