War in the Middle East “Fostering freedom will help end war because people who participate in their own government are less likely to go to war” (Gerdes 190). As long as man is on the Earth there will be some sort of conflict. People have different views, and that has been that way forever. Terrorism exists today because some people have their beliefs and do not want them to be changed. Helping these countries obtain freedom with a democratic government will give them a voice and reduce terrorism. In turn this will lower the amount of conflicts. The United States should continue war in the Middle East because it helps establish a democracy, protect the United States, and prevent future conflicts. The first reason the United States should continue war in the Middle East is to establish a democracy. Democracies improve almost everything in a country. “People see democracies as being able to negotiate and compromise on issues (Gerdes 194). As an example the United States is compromising with Honduras between two democracies. It has been a non-violent compromise. Also, the more democratic a country is, the least likely they will squander the lives of their people in foreign violence (Gerdes 198). Between two democracies, how many incidents of violence has there been? Out of 350 cases of democratic nations, there have been zero cases of war (Gerdes 165). When a country has a dominant leader, as in a dictatorship or communism, it is more likely to cause a war. Some people think that going to war is the only way to establish a democracy and end terrorism in the Middle East (Friedman 49). Having a democracy gives people an outlet to expressing themselves. It also gives them a voting process. The terrorists see the United states as a leader for the west. They think the United States is using diverse and devious means to destroy them. Establishing
