University of Phoenix Material: Robin Mravik Ethical Dilemma Worksheet Incident Review 1. What is the ethical issue or problem? Identify the issue succinctly. | The law enforcement officials did suspect that the individual was driving under the influence and thus becoming a risk to himself and everyone else around him. Before the law enforcement officer can make an arrest there has to be a clear sign of probable cause if an officer neglects to find probable cause before arresting the individual when the trial comes along, the case will be dismissed in court and the offender will walk away free.
This soon spirals out of control and ends up with Ricky getting shot at the train station towards the end of the film. The director is trying to show how difficult it is for young people to get out of the never ending circle of gun crime. The message of the film is anti gun crime, trying to show young people living in the poorer communities who are more vulnerable to violence or gun crime will sooner or later pay the price unless they have the strength that Ricky didn’t have in-order to step out. Gun crime is often made into a big fuss by the media and glamorised as such. It is important that violence and gun crime are talked about in films and that young people are made to see the real side of it, because people are getting killed often in events where youths are carrying guns, this often appears on the news.
Speeding over the Queensborough Bridge in Gatsby’s vehicle, Nick feels like an explorer setting eyes on New York for the first time. Again and again, automobiles give Fitzgerald’s characters a sense of excitement and possibility. But Fitzgerald repeatedly shows that these awe-inspiring cars are dangerous, misleading, and destructive. Soon after his wedding, Tom endangers his life by getting into a heavily publicized car accident. (By noting that there is a young female hotel employee in the passenger seat, Fitzgerald suggests that the accident also endangers Tom’s marriage.)
The use of bait cars in our community have been a problem. Criminals want to say that it is entrapment. I feel that if you brake the law, you’ve done wrong. The time, day, or even the situation should not be looked at, but the crime that was committed. It should not matter if I left my keys in the car, or if the police left their keys in a bait car, if stolen it is wrong.
[change tone/pace]Right now in Victoria the law states quote ‘Police and Emergency vehicles have exemptions to break rules in the case of emergencies and may act unpredictably,’ end quote. This means police cars are allowed to run red lights and pursue suspicious people; currently there are no speed restrictions on high-speed pursuits. And it is my view that it should be kept that way. If there were restrictions, the law offenders would just take advantage of this, knowing full well that the police are restricted to a certain speed. Many people would be driving as fast as the competitors in the grand prix and no one would be able to stop them.
Blackmon 1 Leah Blackmon Sociology 201 Deborah Robinson 15 September 2010 Crime and Social Order There are many reasons why an individual may or may not become involved in crime. In his essay, Robert K. Merton writes on the causes of crime. Merton focuses on a pint that society's cultural goals may not be easily attained by everyone. Those who do not have the means to reach these goals, such as family support and a good education, may come up with their own means to reach society's material goals. That usually means reverting to street crimes.
Driving while talking should be banned. When a cell phone goes off in a movie theatre or at a concert it is very irritating but, at least our lives are not endangered. When we are on the road, irresponsible cell phone users are more than irritating; they are putting our lives at risk. When certain kinds of driver behaviors are shown to be especially dangerous, we wisely draft special laws making them illegal imposing specific punishments, so talking on a cell phone in a moving vehicle should be no exception. Many of us have witnessed drivers dialing and talking on cell phones, resembling drunk drivers swerving all over the roads.
This law would minimize the number of accidents that occur, I do believe. If cell phone use while operating a motor vehicle was against the law, I do believe it would only be far if the computers in a cop car should also be illegal. I say this because most of the time cops are focused on the computer and if they weren’t distracted by the computer they would also be able to prevent accidents that occur because of speeding. Another reason to adopt the law of cell phone usage while operating a motor vehicle would be because texting is against the law and we as citizens are required to follow the laws. It is overall dangerous to talk on the phone, and or text while operating a motor
The average Joe is sitting in his Honda on Interstate 65 when his cell phone goes off. Of course, hearing the recognizable text message vibration or ringtone creates curiosity, so Joe thinks, “Maybe it is my friend telling me about a change of plans for tonight, or parents, or something is wrong?” Although traffic looks like it is going to be moving soon and knowing that it would only take a few seconds to respond, Joe does. Before he knows it, the Blazer in front of him stops too fast, causing the grill of Joe’s Honda to hit the back end of the Blazer. Texting behind the wheel is dangerous because it takes the driver’s eyes off the road and lowers the driver’s mental focus. Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting.
To date legislators have won the fight to protect our children from such negligent individuals who choose to endanger their lives and the lives of other around them; however further action needs to be taken. Our children need to be made safe in areas beyond designated school zones. Governmental action needs to be brought forth into reality so that all of our road ways feel safer. Lawmakers need to push legislation through to the highest levels which would restrict cell phone usage in moving vehicles on all of our road ways. Irresponsible drivers who choose to ignore efforts to save lives need to be prosecuted for reckless driving by being sentenced to the maximum penalty their crime entails.
