There are many different forces that impact an individual’s psychological development. Two of the most influential psychological developmental traits are that affect a person’s development are heredity and environment. When you add fame, fortune and social choices to the mix, the impact it can have on a person’s life can be a wonderful thing or it can turn their life upside down. Michael Jackson is one person that from a psychological standpoint had a life filled with a multitude of forces impacting him throughout his lifetime. The start of Michael Jackson’s life had a huge impact on the person society either loved or hated, with most of it starting with him as a young child. Michael was the fifth of nine children born to Joseph and Katherine Jackson. His father always dreamed of becoming a successful musician, when he failed at a music career of his own, he decided he would do anything it would take to make his children fulfill his musical career goal (A+E 2013). The impact that this had on Michael’s development was tremendous. He inherited the musical skills his father desired and was as just as talented as his father had hoped along with his siblings when they started the Jackson 5 in the early 1960’s when Michael was only five years old. Over time, Jackson’s career was impacted as he entered the different stages of puberty. He had to overcome physiological changes both affecting his relationship with his family and his musical career. Starting his career at such a young age made him enter a lifestyle of fame and fortune both affecting how his environment effected his psychological development.
