Prior to reviewing the article, my sense of wellness was that it was an active process, such as exercising or praying, to become more aware of one self in order to make better choices toward a more successful existence of life. Meyers and Sweeney view wellness as a way of life in which the mind, body, and spirit are all integrated by the individual to live life more fully and within a natural community. They use the models such as the Wheel of Wellness and the Indivisible Self to illustrate how wellness provides a more conceptualized way for the counselor to create an environment that encourages wellness, a positive state of well-being, and a wellness-enhancing intervention. The Wheel of Wellness was one of the first models depicting wellness in the counseling field. The initial Wheel of Wellness sought to identify the correlation between health, the quality of life, and longetivity.

Describe how accessing a range of services and facilities can be beneficial to an individual’s wellbeing.Essential services are basic services provided for the general public at large by key government departments and non-departmental public bodies. In terms of benefits an individual’s well-being may improve in a number of ways by accessing a range of services and facilities, these may include a benefit to their physical well-being, when they are encouraged and can easily access services such as GP surgeries, dentists or even leisure centres to exercise. Sometimes this can improve their physical stamina in dealing with some of their physical limitations. Also access to libraries and resource centres may encourage individuals to have a more positive outlook on their circumstances by therefore encouraging the promotion of mental well-being; this is also true and evident with people who may have a balanced mental well-being and face a crisis; they would be more resilient and resourceful in dealing with the crisis if they can access services who support them in their way to recovery. Having access to places such as day centres and community events also promotes the social well-being of the individual as humans are naturally social animals and interaction promotes our sense of self-worth and belonging.

Eating a balanced diet is essential for good health and well-being. 'The body's ability to remain well under anything other than ideal conditions is a direct result of the nutrition received on a daily basis' (Scott, 2012). The World Health Organisation describes health as 'a complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity' (WHO, 1948). 'Optimum health' could be used to describe the highest state of health, a life of complete balance and without illness. In order to achieve this elevated level of well-being, we must provide our bodies with the right ingredients to function at it's highest level. Optimum health cannot exist independently of optimum nutrition.
