They say I am lucky. I left the house with a wallet full of money in my back pocket. I take a taxi with Harvey, my closest friend, to the shopping mall where everybody is waiting for us, eager to have our money wasted on them. Once we reach the shopping mall, we take the elevator to the top where the cinema is. So here we are in the cinema, carrying loads of goodies probably worth more than a yacht thanks to cinema prices. And then I think, ‘Wait a second. What the heck, the money isn’t even mine, and I am probably doing my dad good wasting it on this instead of booze and investments bound to doom him.’. I take a refreshing sip of coke followed by a long deep sigh. I spent roughly R$300 on lunch and R$240 on the VIP movie tickets. Now I have about R$75 left and I need a minimum of R$40 for the taxi ride back home. And now I’m thinking of home. Back home where my dad is wasting money on investments, where my mom is texting her friends about the miserable this and the depressing that, where my sister is still sleeping in her bedroom, and where my empty, untouched bedroom is. In reality, this is the definition of a fantastic life. I go back home where nothing special happens. My dad is on the computer with a bottle of wine that was just popped open, my mom opens the door for me and goes back to her phone, and my sister is on her laptop minding her own business. I closed the door to my room as I take everything out of my pockets and get comfortable to relax. Before I open my laptop, I see the thin wallet on the table.
