Being at a racetrack brings happiness to my life. On April 7, 2002, I got the opportunity to run my first practice session of the year. When we drove through the pit gate, a comforting sense of familiarity set in, the sight of new faces and old faces, seeing the different paint schemes or the same paint schemes on cars is quite a sight to me. Seeing my pit crew for the first time this year was cool. The smell of burnt rubber, race fuel, and grease filled the air. The sounds of wrenches being used, engines running is comforting sound as well. I climbed into the car, tightened my belts, put the steering wheel on. Each practice session is eight laps. I was waiting impatiently just outside the back gate. I chatted to my spotter Bob to kill some time. To me, it seemed like I was waiting forever. I was feeling really anxious and confident. At last I spotted the Whelen caution lights light up, this means the practice is over. The pits steward opened the gate and signaled for me to pull on to the track. I shifted into first gear and it was a smooth take off. When I got onto the track I realized all the hard work and patience over the winter paid off. On the pace lap, had to feel things out to make sure everything was good and nothing felt wrong, no part failures. The flag man waved the green flag that signals that the green flag is out and full speed practice to begin. The Whelen Engineering lights turned from flashing yellow to solid green. I grabbed the shifting lever and shifted into high gear and foot to the floor full throttle. My spotter Bob let me know where other cars were on the track. It is practice, so you really want to keep distance from other cars to get a good feel for what the car is
