To What Extent does Strengthening of Hip Abductor and Lateral Rotator affect the Treatment of Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome? A Systematic Review Author Class Name Professor Institution Affiliation City/State Date Need for systemic reviews Both the public and individual patients have a right of knowing the inspirations behind any healthcare decision made by practitioners. Confidence in their actions as well as their patients only evolve whenever there is overwhelming research evidence with the best possible solution. #Analysis of Research Question Population: Patients with Patellofemoral pain syndrome. The patients here include both male and female adults, or young adolescents. Intervention: Strengthening the hip abductor and lateral (external) rotator muscles. Hip exercise or general physical therapy targeting the hip muscles are some of the ways of treating hip muscle pain Comparator: Knee exercise, patella taping, electrical stimulation, invasive procedures Outcomes: Self-reported pain, function (exercise, walking, running) Objectives ➢ To understand the etiology of patella-femoral pain syndrome ➢ To understand the involvement of hip abductors or lateral rotators in the etiology of Patellofemoral pain syndrome ➢ To understand how strengthening the hip musculature leads to a reduction of pain and improvement of function in patients with patella-femoral…show more content…
In the systemic review, both data extraction and analysis will be performed in a collaborative manner. During the extraction process, the design of the study will be given great attention by focusing on randomized controlled trials. The review will also consider the number of articles with abstracts and methodologies that address the research question. In addition, the systemic review will take into account the sample characteristics by focusing on parameters as age, gender, size sample, and activity profile of the subjects. The research will also focus on the outcome measured by individual articles, results at baseline, the post-intervention practices carried out, and as well as any reported follow-up periods, and mean differences form the baseline, coupled with their statistical significance. In the case if the article lacks crucial data for analysis. The authors of the articles will be consulted for further clarifications on their findings and data. These practices will aid in determining the sensitivities of individual
