Have Feminist Achieved Equality? A strong topic throughout our readings is the notion that we have achieved equality as we’ve entered the 21st century. With discrimination laws in place and women suffrage being a large feat for the women’s movement, it’s believed by pop culture that feminism is obsolete and unnecessary. We can recognize through history that the women’s movement is ever changing. While we have made great strides in the direction of equality and intersectionality, there is still a more improvements to our society that women continue to fight for daily.
In life, people have made so many different choices, whether it is good or bad. If they wake up everyday with confidence and good thoughts, most of the time they will end the way happily. However, if they choose to wake up thinking about negative stuffs and being depressed, most likely they will not have a good day. Choices help people in all aspects of life especially with important decisions like
In the 20th century, women in most nations won the right to vote, this in return increased their educational and job opportunities. Which is a good thing compared to tests that were done in the 1960s that showed that women’s scholastic achievement were higher in early grades than in high school because the teachers and families of girls did not expect them to peruse anything but being a wife and mother (wic.org). I would say that that we have come a long way from the early 20th century. Women in positions of power or women who want to work their way to a position of power still tend to have a glass ceiling over them. This is because history tells us that men hold these types of positions women are gaining and proving that they can do just as well as a man in a position of power.
In the twentieth century, women have overcome gender discrimination and achieved some equality. Women not only achieved equality in human rights, but they also overcame sexist stereotypes such as change their clothing styles from heavy floor length skirts to trousers. However, now the media still shows women as a symbol of the frailer sex whose unique role is to represent beauty and fashion, rather than intelligence and independence. Alison Lurie, in her essay “Women’s clothes-Towards Emancipation”, states that changes in women’s clothes from the late Victorian era to the twentieth century illustrates the stages of women's emancipation from sexual equality, escape from limited gender roles and to access to higher education. During the late-Victorian era, society stereotyped women as the frail sex.
Pizan so obviously from the start of her writing, introduces how women should behave (from the perspective of a princess), so that her actions shall be beneficial to her and her husband. By talking about the finances, which is radical, Pizan degrades women in all other aspects. Degrading is used in the sense that she does not promote equality in any other way other than the financial aspect. These women could be considered early feminists if they looked for equality in other things as well not just a specific
People will often ask what makes a good or long lasting relationship. In truth there is no one answer, what works for some will not work for others, it’s about finding the balance that suits the both people. At the beginning of a new relationship, the excitement of being in that relationship helps us to not see the things the other person does which may cause annoyance. At this stage in the relationship both parties find themselves faced with everyday realities which means they have to work at the relationship to find and maintain a balance. When couples are faced with life changing events or illnesses the balance changes quickly and they will find themselves in the difficult position of facing their own feelings and fears while trying to support each other.
That is it is not true that more choices more freedom and more welfare. On the contrary, the fact is so cruel that more options stand for more disappointed. Therefore, I do can agree more with him that sometimes we would be satisfied if we have fewer selections. I have the similar experience with the speaker when I am trying to buy myself a new dress. I cannot make up my
The western world for the most part has no idea what lies behind the clothes we buy and sell. Gender mainstreaming is a tactic that can be used to educate all people of the evils of globalization. Economic development and gender mainstreaming can be used to empower women economically and politically while simultaneously combating the negative effects of globalization. The challenge is to educate all people on what exactly is happening and most importantly the poor female labor force who are exploited everyday on their rights as women, as workers and as humans. Even though Margaret Sanger aimed to improve women’s health care, the end still does not justify her means. Women empowerment can either be beneficial or detrimental to society. When there is power over another, the abuse of persons or goods are encouraged, while personal power impels a reassessment of personal potential. Many women have experienced this abuse and through personal power, realize a change in the “self” is essential to the solution and take charge of their situation (Porter
In an increasingly pluralistic society, fashion and style are more individualistic than ever. In terms of the female vogue, we now dress more for ourselves than ever before. With patriarchy in the western world at an all time low, females are becoming less and less the male fantasy and more an image of their own success, although the global struggle of the feminist movement is far from over. This progression of society can unquestionably be seen in contemporary fashion as it has played a massive role in allowing many to express themselves and the growing values of today. "It’s no secret that assembling an outfit is like selecting social armor, and that what we wear has power over others".
