The difference between operational and strategic management is the difference between how you do something and what it is that you want to do. An operational plan will deal with the day-to-day tasks that need to be done and how they are to be accomplished. A strategic plan will focus on long-term goals and the overall vision of a company. In Operational Management, Operational management deals with the nitty-gritty basics of how a company operates, such as keeping track of spending costs and cash flow as well as maintaining a supply line. Some of the best managers have been those who have found ways to make the basic operations of a company more efficient. Operational management requires knowledge of a constantly changing variety of data and variables, and skillful and flexible planning is required.
