Of Mice And Men Chapter One Question 1 Summarise what has happened in this chapter using the space below. You can use bullet points or continuous writing. Togeather Lennie and George walked along the river side path, both wearing black shapeless hats. Chapter 2: Fears and ideas Meanwhile in a little village, near the coast where no one had caught the plague, a bunch of people were debating what caused this dreadful illness. “How many times do I have to tell you? Why else would people be dying if it wasn’t a punishment from God?” shouted a muddy, dirty farmer named Peter. “But babies are dying and they’re too young to of done anything wrong,” mumbled a shy, young woman cooking her some dinner in a small black pot over a fire. “It’s got to be the got to be bad air, there’s so much dirt and mess on the street” “ I agree with her Peter, how can so many people be punished by god?” questioned her husband, a tall, strong man.
Many scenes were omitted from the movie. The scene when Lennie is hiding in the brushes it does not show how he has memories of his Aunt Clara and the giant rabbit. A different scene which was omitted from the movie was when Candy curses the body of Curley’s wife. An added scene was in the beginning of the movies when it shows when George and Lennie were running from people on horses that were from Weed. The changes were made from the movie since the director from the movie did not want to make the book and the movie to much similar to each other.
Of Mice and Men Summary After riding a bus and being dropped off at the wrong spot, George and Lennie were walking down a dirt road heading towards a ranch where they can begin their new work. While they were walking, they came across a river bank and decided to camp out for the night, since they were already late for work. As they were resting, Lennie was petting a dead mouse that he found along the way. When George saw the mouse he took it away from Lennie and threw it across the river bank. He told Lennie that they are going to get a new job and he must behave himself when they meet the boss.
As he is walking around the house he suddenly runs into the snake and it bites him. Sykes screams out for Delia in so much pain. She hears the cries and debates on going in to help him but she was frozen in fear. Delia stays away, leaving him in pain. She slowly approaches him as he is on his hands and knees.
Lennie is now dead, and George is feeling regretful. The story of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a sad novel that tells a story of two workers, Lennie Small and George Milton. The story took place Near the Salinas River near Soledad. George and Lennie is looking for a new job and home because they ran away from their old one in Weed because Lennie made a girl feel uncomfortable by feeling on her soft dress. Lennie have a mental problem but is very kind.
He abuses Huck verbally as well as physically and soon shows that he is a brutal drunkard. After his father keeps him locked inside a cabin in the woods, Huck decides to escape and uses a pig’s blood to fake his own death. This act indicates that Huck’s moral development is still at its beginning and that he doesn’t care about the emotions of other people. This attitude will change later when he plays a trick on Jim on the river. But for now, while he is carrying out his plan, he doesn’t even think about what all his friends and family will go through when they hear about his death.
Steinbeck carries this theme throughout Of Mice and Men, the Great Depression what a dark and lonely time in America’s history and Steinbeck was trying to tell us it did not have to be this way. People can always reach out and develop relationships in order to stave of the “meanness” of isolation. Prejudices in the 1930’s kept people isolated itinerant worker life harsh and kept people on move and on their own.Tired of constantly reminding Lennie of things he should remember, George gets quickly angry when Lennie forgets to get the firewood, for example, and instead goes after the dead mouse. On the other hand, George's anger is quickly under control, and he blames himself for scolding Lennie. In fact, Steinbeck makes clear that, despite his complaining and frustration, George looks out for Lennie and genuinely cares for him.
He becomes intrigued by their dreams of owning a ranch and tries to get himself included. ‘Spose I went in with you guys, I could cook and tend the chickens…’. Candy is so desperate for a friend he tells George and Lennie that if he can share their dream, he will leave everything to them in his will, in case he dies before hand because he has no other family to share it with. ‘I’d make a will and leave my share to you guys in case I kick off, cause I ain’t got no relatives or nothing’. The comparison between George and Lennies relationship to anyone else on the ranch makes it obvious that you can achieve more when you’re not on your own.
These events like in “Kaffir Boy” where the narrator’s is randomly raided by police at any given time. The narrator has no choice or idea when the raids will happen. Another example of an event caused by chance is from “Of Mice and Men” Lennie was petting Curley’s wife a little too hard and he eventually kills her on accident. This by accident as he was just trying to stop her from screaming and gripped her too hard. These examples did not let the person who was affected by it to have a choice, They simply happened.
