One policy that is especially concerning and confusing to many advanced practice nurses and future advanced practice nurses is prescriptive authority. Across the United States, each state has its own regulations on prescriptive authority for advanced practice nurses. These regulations range from simple to very complex, one state even prohibits nurse practitioners from signing prescriptions at all. In states that have more lenient prescriptive authority, patients have better access to care. In rural or underserved areas, access to a physician may be very limited, so more patients depend on nurse practitioners for care.
Professional counselors also need to consider how issues such as race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, socioeconomic status, family structure, trauma, and sexual and gender orientation affect a client’s presenting concerns and what impact these variables have on the acceptability of , and the access to, counseling (Erford, 2010). Clients are being misdiagnosed due to managed health care guidelines. According to Braun and Cox (2005) managed care guidelines determine whether and how counselors deliver services and whether services are reimbursable. When insurance reimbursement is denied because managed care
Henry is due to have surgery in 3 month; this essay will explore the nurse’s role in Henrys care. This is a fictional scenario therefore no permission to use names during this essay is needed. If real people where being used then authorization and consent will have been gained or alias names would be used. In this essay there will be discussions on the roles and responsibilities of the nurse in relation to safeguarding vulnerable patients which will later be linked to Henry and his care. The nurse has a responsibility to find out if Henry is a vulnerable adult and if so what makes him vulnerable and what makes people in general vulnerable, including concerns that could arise from being vulnerable for example abuse.
Nursing Shortage This article describes how hard it can be to transition from a nursing student to a new graduate nurse. New nurses face difficult moments in their first year of practice in the acute care setting, forcing them to quit. Hospitals are creating measures to retain these novice nurses by implementing nursing training programs. New nurses find the first year of work demanding and, because of this, contemplate leaving their employer early in their career. The findings in this article propose that the first year at work continues to be challenging for new graduates.
As a result a review of note keeping amongst healthcare staff is to be carried out. To understand the importance of good record keeping, a report published by The Daily Mail (2012), highlights the need for good record keeping so that mistakes can be avoided. During a shift at Sussex Orthopedic NHS, registered nurse Mr Nsengiyaremye, failed to carry out and record hourly observations on an elderly patient recovering from a hip operation. The inquiry found that Mr Nsengiyaremeye had ignored his patient for several hours, whilst she
Medical care has advanced to the point that new technology with its potential benefit or harm to a patient changes constantly. Although the private conduct of a nurse is no longer controlled by the employer, the effects of that lifestyle on the nurse's ability to think and respond to patients while on duty falls under the code of ethics. Viewpoints The study of ethics is actually a branch of philosphy. The word ethics is derived from the Greek term ethos which means customs, habitual usage, conduct, and character. The study of ethics has led to the identification of basic concepts including rights, autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, and fidelity.
The third article focuses on a case study in which an elderly woman was abused and no proper investigation was completed within a nursing home setting. Analysis and conclusion of the research will be provided at the end of the paper. Problem Identification Identifying elder abuse within a long term care setting can be difficult. Nursing home residents often have poor safety awareness and a high rate of falls and related injuries. (Lachs & Boyer, 2002) It is sometimes hard to determine if a fracture or bruise comes from an unpreventable incident in a confused elder or if it came from abuse or negligence.

Apply Reflective Practice, Critical Thinking and Analysis in Health. Short answer questions. 1 .I feel that one of the most significant issues related to nursing today is the shortage of trained professionals that are willing to work in Aged Care Facilities. A scholarly paper written by Jackson, Mannix and Daly in 2003, tells us that new graduates are reluctant to join the aged care sector due to negative perceptions, working conditions such as dealing with physical injury, violence and behavioural difficulties are just some of the issues affecting a nurses’ decision not to work in the Aged Care Industry. Over the years I have seen aged care systems that have struggled to survive economically, with “profit before people” attitudes, administrators have decided that cutting staffing, wages and supplies is a way in which to meet the rise of health care costs and financial needs.
We provide the local area with out of hour’s community nursing cover between the hours of 5pm and 8am. End of life communication is a challenge to most nurses; it has been shown that many nurses lack confidence and training in dealing with end of life discussions and care issues. It is a nursing necessity that all nurses have the training and skills needed to care for this group of patients and their families. (Department of Health, 2008) States “Such skills are a national priority; the end-of-life care strategy recommended that communication skills training should be aimed at all staff levels.” The area of practice I will be concentrating on is District Nursing, although healthcare practitioners of all levels within the community setting and hospitals are challenged with this difficult aspect of patient care on a daily basis. To carry this out in a skilful, respectful and compassionate nature relies on that person’s ability to discuss such a taboo subject “death”.
