My Trip to Uganda, Narrative

My mission trip to Uganda will always be one of the most life-changing things I’ve ever experienced. My church, First United Methodist Church, made an announcement that our youth group would be going on a trip to help with orphans in Uganda, Eastern Africa. The second I found out, I knew I had to go. Little did I know, it would be the single most incredible thing I’d ever encounter. The second we stepped off of the plane, everything was fast paced. Our group leader picked us up in a van, took us to our lodging, and we went straight to work from there. They gave us an hour to unpack and we were on our way to the orphanage. There we immediately started setting up a health center. The orphanage was in dire need of help with the children’s healthcare due to the fact that they didn’t have the necessary materials to do regular check-ups. That day, we did check-ups on over 250 children. Needless to say, we all slept like babies that night. The next day we had an early start of 5 a.m. We grabbed a quick breakfast at the breakfast table that the orphanage had set up for us and went straight to work. This day we all went separate ways to do different tasks in our different groups. My group got assigned to do de-worming shots for the 5-9 year olds. That day I met some of the most inspirational children I will ever meet. Some of them told me their stories and I often ended up being moved to tears. These children were so strong and such blessings. I wanted to take one home with me! By the end of the day we were all well ready to go to sleep. There were so many children with health issues that we ended up de-worming and other shots for two more days. This took up the majority of our five day trip. The rest of the time, we were having church or chapel and leading some really amazing children to Christ. Every day was an inspiration to grow in Christ and grow as a person. I
