First, he felt abandoned by Alice, the girl at the orphanage. A couple years later, he felt threatened by the dietician. After the toothpaste incident, “It never occurred to her that he believed that he was the one who had been taken in sin and was being tortured with punishment deferred and that he was putting himself in her way in order to get it over with, get his whipping and strike the balance and write it off” (123). He had a hatred for Mrs. McEachern because she tried to help him and he did not want help from anyone. She fixed him supper one night and he completely refused it, “While she watched him he rose from the bed and took the tray and carried it to the corner and turned it upside down, dumping the dishes and food and all onto the floor” (154-155).
Huck, the duke, and the dauphin all enter the Wilk’s house a few days after the death of Peter Wilks, and are greeted nicely since the family thinks that they are their uncles. They do this because they are trying to scheme money from the family. Huck thinks this is disgusting, and wonders what people have come to. He is annoyed at the duke and dauphin’s actions and he also feels bad for Mary Jane because she is upset. She’s upset because their slaves, all in the same family, have been split up.

Her whole world went black and gloomy that day, and after her son’s death she just didn’t feel as if her life had meaning anymore. Aibileen has a quite strong dislike for whites now because when her son was severely injured at work, his fellow white coworkers did very little to help him; resulting in his death. Her bitterness emerges throughout the book, specifically when Mrs. Leefolt suggests that blacks were dirty. In response to this comment she said “I feel that bitter seed growing inside a me, the one planted after Treelore died. I want to yell so loud that Baby Girl can hear me that dirty isn’t a color, disease ain’t the Negro side a town.” Her son is her main motivation to keep pressing on through life no matter what.
Rayona hates it more than anything that when she goes anywhere, people poke fun at her and make racial remarks to her which makes her feel insecure about herself. When Ray meets Foxy for the first time, Father Tom introduces her and Foxy says, “Your Christine’s kid…The one whose father is a nigger” (Dorris 44). Not only does Rayona have to deal with racism her mother is always putting her in bad situations. There has been quite a few times where Christine has attempted to leave Ray and told her that she wanted to commit suicide. One time in the very beginning of the story Elgin goes to visit Christine in the hospital, Rayona had not seen him in 5 months and Christine did not want to tell him about her sickness.
She ended up telling my grandma she was pregnant, who was very upset about it, and eventually my grandpa found out. He was so 38 disappointed that he kicked my mom out of the house. She moved in with my dad, thinking things were going to be good now that her family was together, but little did she know that the next five months were going to be terrible. My dad was the total opposite of what she
The problem with Bone is that he is scared of his stepdad. Bone’s stepdad threatens him by saying some nasty words to him like, as he says “all the time he said he’d cut off my d*** if I told” (pg. 196). I think what makes bone leaves his family is that he doesn’t want anyone to know about the times when his stepdad abuses him. He is afraid of what the society would think of him just like when he says “no one’d believe me” (page 296).
Columbus Letter I’m cold, lonely, and exhausted. I can feel my stomach shrinking by the second. I just had to witness my brother get brutally beaten to death just because he decided to finally speak his mind. At times like this, I always think to myself, “imagine how much easier it would be if I were just dead”. But no.
My first love is shattered by separation across the globe. As he watches the girl he loved in a casket, he tells us how "unreal" the situation was for him and how he never fully accepted her death. My parents decision to move to the United States was also unreal to me. I could not accept the fact that I had no say in this matter because of my age and because my parents were the ones with "autority". I remember crying every night, feeling deviastated about the situation and my fear of separation.
