Labyrinth In the year 1986, Jim Henson directed the movie Labyrinth, starring David Bowie; this perplex and interesting movie depicts a story with an odd, psychological twist. The movie begins with 15-year-old Sarah, played by Jennifer Connelly, being put in charge of her younger brother by her inept stepmother and reclusive father. The young girl, who took a high interest in theater and plays, especially the Labyrinth, dramatically attempted to defy her parents’ requests. After her parents leave, her younger brother, Toby, cries continuously until Sarah realized that she had enough! Sarah then wished for her baby brother to be whisked away by the goblins to the far-away Goblin Kingdom.
At the end, Lily finds out the complete truth about her mother who lived in the Pink house, and on the day that she died, she went to get Lily and to run away from T. Ray. Lily also learns that she did kill her mother by accident, forgives herself and learns to love her mother. I would improve the book by adding Deborah's ghost as she watches over Lily through the whole story, and how much she changes as the climax reaches its end. The paper bag princess chose the opposite way with most of classic fairy tale such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow-White and the Seven Dwarfs. The book breaks the stereotypical idea of princess fairy tales. At the start of 'The Paper Bag Princess', Elizabeth appears to be a common fairy tale princess. She lives in a castle, wears expensive and beautiful princess dresses and is going to marry a charming prince named Ronald. However, everything changes when a dragon arrives and smashes Elizabeth's castle, burns everything the princess owns, including her clothes, and takes Prince Ronald.
People always say that teenagers need a taste of reality right? Well this book provides it. But many people believe that this book should be banned for that same reason. It is too crude for a school curriculum. Yet I believe that this book, “The Chocolate War” by Robert Cormier, should be kept in schools to be read by teenagers.
When it comes to what children are reading, people only think of the bad things and what the book is about. They don’t look at how it could possibly benefit them! I think that students should be able to read books that appeal to their beliefs and culture. It could help them learn more about themselves and their religion; they can’t do that if those books are banned from school libraries and bookstores! Book banning has been going on for the past two thousand years but people still read those books!
Terry Fox was determined and persisted in achieving his goal is life. Upon learning that he had cancer, and that he would lose his right leg. He devoted rest of his life in raising cancer awareness and fund to research cancer cure. (Neilson, The Canadian Encyclopedia) He is in our geography, in awards that honor outstanding young Canadians, as a role model for athletes especiabecause the survival rate for Osteogenicsarcoma is about 90 percent today, but if we compare to when Terry was actually running it was 50 percent. (The Star, 2010) Kids all over the world play and if they get a disease for a small injury when they play sports then many kids would be dieing but because of Terry’s Foundation we have saved a lot of children and hopefully will save many more.
