U.S. President Harry Truman’s decision to help Israel become a sovereign country has many pros and cons. Nazis had oppressed Jews for several years, and when they were finally liberated, the U.N. felt they deserved to have a country of their own. The president’s studies of the Bible influenced him to believe that the Jews should immigrate to Palestine and divide it so that the surviving Jews can have their own sovereign country, Israel. However, this choice has advantages and disadvantages, as one might expect. One disadvantage to Truman’s decision to support Israel in becoming a sovereign country is that U.S. relations with the Arabs can be affected.
US policy in the Middle East which protects the Israelis is a driving force for continuous hatred of the Americans in the Arab world. The second reason for Arab hatred of America is historic. Although political reasons differ from historic ones, it is difficult to separate them in this context. Historically, Israel was established by the West as “ a safe-haven for millions of Jews dispersed throughout the
Arab culture often embraces Islam and they make use of the Arabic language. Arabs have various views regarding terrorism as a way to express their sovereignty. Arab Americans have contributed in the fields of labor, health, social justice, law, cultural awareness and community development by putting their own interest aside and working for the betterment of all. The terrorist attacks of September 11th not only brought Arabs to public attention, but also put them at risk and in danger of discrimination and prejudice. Still to this day discrimination is present throughout the U.S. many Arabs dress differently than do other Americans; their cuisine is drastically different and their traditions are different.
Popular music has constantly been seen as a vital social impact in various ways. The relationship between popular music and politics is connected along two different dimensions. In the widest sense the first If we stick with the definition that popular music has wide appeal and mass distribution, then the history really begins with the publication of sheet music — this makes pop music another media form that owes its origins to Gutenberg's printing press. Printed sheet music allowed individuals who were not the original composer of a song (or a musician lucky enough to be given a hand-copied version of the original score) to take away the music, and perform it to the audience of their choice. Songs could cross from city to city, country to country, enjoyed and played by large numbers of people at the same time.
It was said that rock ‘n’ roll posed a threat because black and white working class performers who had southern roots and dialects could be successful among the middle-class audience. This challenged the entertainment industry because they had to look for the next person that was going to be a hit. They went on to exploit small groups that would make them money, making sure they were gained control over rock ‘n’ rolls subculture style. They wanted to target the middle-class white people but instead they decided to take care of the more extreme aspects of the music. In my opinion I think Elvis was both an appropriator and transgressor.
However, the black people sing like white people would, and the white people are jumping and dancing around like black people would have. The Indians speaking Yiddish is ironic and a little bit of stereotype reversal. Since Yiddish language is speaking by Jews, and the Indians are speaking it, this is comical. This is comical because they were both driven out of their homeland, and were a part of genocide. Brooks uses stereotype reversal to show that people should not always assume something is what it should be and have an open mind towards
The new frontier was an addition that changed American society, and brought with it new cultural and religious variety. There were many differences, from the way that religion was viewed and practiced to the structure of living, and even what they did for entertainment. The cultural and religious differences between the western states and the New England states became particularly defined during the nineteenth century. One of the main differences between the west and the east was education. The New England states consisted more of well-educated, aristocratic men, while the west was thought to be populated by backwoods, uneducated men.
The late 1940’s had a powerful influence on the development of rock music and the vast changes in the American society. One major change in society was the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement. This movement not only impacted American society but as well the reason for the division of musical taste. The impact the 40s had on rock music included instrumental, vocal, and dance styles that were popular during that time era. There were various roots in styles of music that had not been recognized by the American society.
For settlers in the North American colonies, life would be disrupted again as the American Revolution required Jews to choose sides. Those who felt tied to the land or non-British trading routes most often sided with the Americans and those who still had ties to the British or were heavily involved with British trading routes, tended to side with the British. Those that were able to help monetarily fund the revolutionary movement like Haym Salomon, would obtain a mythical stature among later generations as tales of s heroic contributions were greatly exaggerated. Salomon would obtain the mythical title of “Financier of the Revolution,” after his supposed grand contributions to the revelation. While it was true that he did “raise funds and negotiate trade with foreign governments,” (Wenger, 126) and leave his family ion debt, it was not because he had spent all his money financing the revolution as was later claimed.
A similar issue was bought about by the competition for housing. Many Americans were seen to be ‘pushed out’ of housing areas, to therefore accommodate for those willing to pay a higher rent fee. Such issues then led to mass sectarianism, in which rivalry between both the Americans and various different ethnic groups led to gang welfare – particularly in areas of the United States such as New York and Philadelphia - which caused an up-roar of religious tension. In Consequence of this rivalry, ethnic barriers were now developing, creating the likes of Little Italy, China Town, and the Jewish Ghetto in Lower East Side, where they all used their original language to communicate. Although provided with segregated areas for their own religious practice and cultural growth, areas such as the Jewish Ghetto would now thrive with disease due to the swamp of local population.
