Motivation Drives Today’s Soldiers Human Motivation Motivation is an essential part of any military training. The military relies on highly motivated individuals to come together to form highly skilled and trained teams to carry out missions to success. The first day a recruit enters the military they are taught to always be highly motivated and display a can do attitude. There are various ways to define this motivation, but in my training in the United States Army I believe that Drive is the key theory that supports the Army’s success. I will review some of the reasons why I support this theory and I will provide some examples to demonstrate how I have come to this conclusion. Recruiting The Best We currently have an all volunteer Army. The days of the draft ended with the Vietnam War. Recruiting Soldiers is a difficult task and no sales job can make an individual voluntarily put his or her life in danger without some type or risk versus rewards factor. This may seem to be a true statement and for all intents and purposes it is. The military offers a competitive compensation package. Nowadays most salaries are comparable to civilian jobs. The benefits are much greater than most civilian employment. The military offers excellent health benefits, free housing and all meals are included. The military even provides for Soldiers with families and additional housing and food allowances are included in the pay. To be competitive in gaining the most talented individuals, the Army offers various incentives to motivate people to join. There are monetary bonuses for accepting various Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) or jobs. People can receive bonuses for volunteering for overseas assignments.
