As head of human resources for the company, For Mommies Only Incorporated, it has been brought to my attention that the compensation and benefits package need to be revised. Our project as a team is to revamp the compensation and benefits package. We will use a project charter to serve as a guideline for us to follow. The communication plan is to make everyone aware of the objective, which is to increase enrollment in the company benefits package. By doing so, we at For Mommies Only Inc. will conduct open enrollment sessions. These sessions will provide information for employees and hopefully will get them interested in signing up for the benefits. A project charter describes what the project is and how a team will approach it, as well as listing the name of all stakeholders. “It is a critical component of the project management initiation and planning phases” (www.brighthubpm.com). The project charter is meant to lay the foundation of the project and it includes a statement of the business needs. “Each project begins with an idea, vision, or business opportunity and that is the starting point that must be associated with your organization’s business objectives” (www.brighthubpm.com). A project charter has four major purposes and those purposes are to authorize the project manager to proceed with the project, to help the team and sponsor develop a common understanding, to help the team and sponsor commit to the completion of the project, and to screen out poor projects (Kloppenborg, page 85). “First, a project charter formally authorizes the project” (Kloppenborg, page 85). This also gives the project manager the authority to utilize and apply resources to activities surrounding the project. “Second, everyone involved in the upcoming project needs to develop a common understanding of what the project entails” (Kloppenborg, page85). For Mommies Only Inc. provides prenatal care and support for mothers who do not have insurance or are on government assistance. It also offers counseling services and also has licensed physicians who provide free services to the patients. The employees include receptionists, appointment schedulers, nurse practitioners, ultrasound and lab technicians, and counselors. For Mommies Only Inc. is a small non-profit organization and the majority of its operating income is from the government. The conflict that the organization is having is being able to provide competitive compensation and benefits package.
