Unit 1. Assignment 1. Voice vs. Data Cell Phones Known as a mobile a phone it can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area. Modern mobile phones support a wide variety of other services such as text messaging, email, internet access, Bluetooth, gaming and photography. Landline phones is a phone that uses a solid medium telephone line such as metal wire or fiber optic cable for transmission.
It uses voice communications and then gets sent back to the base station. Data technology is also used on smartphones which allow the user to browse the internet and download files. Landline Phones – Landline phones typically only use voice communications. Some newer landline phones can use what is called a NCID (Network Caller ID) which uses data sent over a TCP connection. SMS/Text Messaging – The SMS (Short Message Service) can be used in a variety of ways.
2. Define and describe the following Telecommunications Network Components: A. Voice- Voice calls are not too unlike fixed line calls; the difference being that it is transmitted wirelessly. The call is transmitted via radio waves to a cellular tower, which is then routed through the service provider and to the party on the other end. Data- Data is commonly called mobile internet. Data is sent through radio waves in either 3G or 4G connection, which streams data to and from the phone, much like a computer connects to the internet.
This deal would ultimately make AT&T the largest cell phone service provider. This wouldn’t be a bad thing for AT&T, but it is concerning to consumers, other competitors and the DOJ and FCC. Verizon has stated that this merger would benefit consumers and allow the company to expand high-speed fourth-generation wireless service across the country faster. They have also said this merger would create over 100,000 jobs. Sprint and the FCC, however, do not agree and both have filed separate suits against the merger There are several different options for how AT&T should handle this situation.

On Cisco.com, They describe how college campuses are using Wireless LAN Bridges to connect all their buildings together without the use of expensive wired alternatives. Another use Cisco demonstrated was the ability to set up a temporary network connected back to the main office using the wireless bridge, maybe for a triage camp after a natural disaster.
