Mobile Technology: How will it impact our lives in 20 years? It’s hard not to notice the advancements in mobile technology. Everywhere you go, you see either someone using their phone for a simple call, playing with their phone, or you may even end up having a conversation about what you think is the best phone out there. The marketing campaigns go to great lengths to grab your attention on the debut of the newest Smartphone. Thanks to the change in telecommunications, pay phones are becoming an endangered species to cell phones and other wireless technology. 1 It’s remarkable that 85% of adults own cell phones and 95% of people from the ages of 18-34 own cell phones as well. 2 That’s a huge percentage! But it is not surprising. I work for a cell phone carrier and I have witnessed day in and day out how much people are attached to their beloved cell phones. Who can blame them? Cell phones are our life lines and an important part of our lives. We use cell phones for every area of our lives. Imagine how your world would be without your cell phone? We all know how a cell phone looks and basically what it is. But what exactly is a mobile phone? A mobile phone is an electronic telecommunications device; it is often referred to as a cellular phone or cell phone. Cell phones work by connecting to a wireless communications network though radio waves or satellite transmissions. By connecting, cell phones are able to send and receive voice calls, videos or other data. 3 To implement a cell-phone system, a geographic area is broken into smaller areas, or cells, usually mapped as uniform hexagrams. 4 Your phone converts your voice into binary information and then it gets compressed.
