Lots were apparently drawn, but it was arranged that in each case the volunteer would be the teacher. Teacher and learner were then taken to a room where the learner was strapped into a chair and electrodes fixed to his wrists. The volunteer/teacher was told that the punishment to be applied was electric shock, and that these shocks could be extremely painful, although they would cause no permanent damage. Next the volunteer/teacher was taken to his own room where he was given his instructions; every time the learner made a mistake, he was to give an increasingly high electric shock by way of punishment. The intensity of these shocks - as displayed on a 'shock generator' - ranged from 15V to 450V.
Analyse how important techniques are used to engage your emotions in a text you have studied. The Film “Schindlers List” directed by Steven Spielberg is a story of a German profiteer, a slave merchant, in Nazi Germany saving 1200 Jews from being murdered in concentration camps. Different techniques such as lighting, shot types, colour and performance are used to effectively engage the audience and make them feel sadness and sorrow at the horrors of the holocaust and maintain these emotions throughout the film. The technique of “lighting” is used throughout the film to highlight the importance of objects or people. A key example of this technique is the opening scene where we, the audience, are first introduced to Schindler.
The Weimar Republic appeared to have no idea how to solve the problems of the Depression. The Nazis on the other hand promised to solve the problems. Hitler promised most groups in Germany what they wanted. Hitler blamed all the problems on Jews and other sections of society. To Germans at the time, Hitler made sense; he united everyone by providing explanations for Germany's problems.
He seems to be lost within the joy of killing when he says “Another baby next. O one-two-three the murderer inside me rose up hard.” Which Hitler himself became enthralled with soon losing sight of his reasons behind the “exterminations.” It is the last sentence in the last stanza that connects all of the dots. “If only they’d all consented to die unseen gassed underground the quiet Nazi way.” This quote is included to help show the much deeper more literal meaning of this poem. It also adds to the view that the farmer has gone from trying to save his farm from pests to trying to almost wipe the entire species of woodchucks from the earth. It also seems to show that he blames the woodchucks for not going down easily adding to the reader’s view of him becoming completely
Heid 1 Jennifer Heid Professor Harris English 1000 29, February, 2014 Final Draft Do you think there could be another event like the holocaust due to the amount of Obedience to an Authority figure? In Philip Meyers article, “If Hitler Asked You to Electrocute a Stranger, Would You?” A social psychologist named Stanly Milgram, working at Yale at the time, put his theory on obedience to the test. Milgram uses cause and effect to find his theory. Milgram uses actors to act a scene where the “ learner’ gets electrocuted by the “teacher” to show obedience to the authority figure. In addition, in Milgram’s theory of obedience, he uses “teachers,” which are the “subject” to authority.
Stanley Milgram a Yale University psychologist, who does a series of social psychology experiments to measure willingness, and study how participants obey under pressure. Milgram’s experiments showed the world that an ordinary citizen will inflict pain on another person simply because he was ordered to by an experimental scientist.
Research Analysis: Pleasure in Mass Executions During World War II, there were thousands of young men who lined up to serve their great country of Germany, unaware of Adolf Hitler’s plans for mass execution. In 1968, U.S. soldiers defended their action of opening fire to hundreds of unarmed civilians, by stating that they were given an order. Psychologists have been studying humans’ natural willingness to administer outrageous treatments. Stanley Milgram and Philip G. Zimbardo both held experiments to study the effects of obedience to authority. Herbert C. Kelman and V. Lee Hamilton write about the My Lai Massacre, and the striking similarities to Milgram and Zimbardo’s experiments.
Chaz Stouffer Professor Herlihy Tuesday, March 24, 2009 Milgram Experiment Essay Milgram Experiment After WWII a major experiment was tended to for the reason to study how someone would obey orders under certain circumstances. There were many actors, interests, institutions, and events which went along with the experiment and with the war. The actors that the historical situation Milgram is responding to are: Nazis, Germans, and the Jews. The Nazis’ interests are to exterminate the Jews and to respond to their supervisors orders. The Germans’ interests are to obey Nazis orders so they would not have to be at fault for being against the laws of Hitler.
The Time Machine Chapter 1 Characters The Time Traveler is an inventor, which studies the fourth dimension, the Time Dimension. He has a model and an actual incomplete version of the time machine in his laboratory. Filby is a psychologist with red-hair and is an argumentative person. Filby, Provincial Mayor, Medical Man, a Very Young Man, and the narrator are all guests of the time traveler’s discussion. Medical Man and the Very Young Man are curious and actively participating in the Time Traveler’s discussion.
‘The Wave’- Analytical Exposition Ben Ross, a history teacher at Gordon State High, conducted an experiment aimed at explaining why ordinary people in Hitler’s Germany did not speak of the wrongs that were taking place in their society during that period. This experiment was called “The Wave”, and involved using his history student’s as test subjects. In the experiment, Ben Ross adopted similar techniques used by Hitler to control people’s thinking and behaviour. This essay will explore how his students’ reaction to the experiment showed possible reasons for the Nazis to gain control of people’s thinking and behaviour. This will be discussed in the following paragraphs.
